Focus on the Nightforce ATACR - 05/05/19 01:53 PM
I have noticed the focus knob does not need to be adjusted very often. Images at multiple distances, just look good. Well, yesterday afternoon I decided to make notes on it, after I was done shooting.
Clear image at 7 yards, 12X focus down as low as it will go. But the reticle became blurry. I did not adjust the diopter, but I believe it would all come into focus, that close.
Clarity was as follows:
100 yards, knob setting 75 yards
200 yards, knob setting ~130 yards
300 yards, knob setting ~220 yards
That's it, looking at every other target/ berm out to 800 yards, the focus knob did not have to leave the ~220 yard setting. Every other scope I've ever had, the focus had to be adjusted for the distance. I never look at the setting label, just turn it until it looks good. Some scopes do line up with clarity, and the setting label though. But the Nightforce just looked good from 200 to 800 yards. I need a longer rifle range to further test this.
This is the 5-25X F-1 model.

Jason,
I have noticed this on all 3 of my ATACR's as well. How ever I have found that when I have all of the parallax set properly for the distance I am shooting that the image is slightly out of focus, but that doesnt bother me really.

I don't understand what you mean?
I don't understand what you mean?
I took it to mean that if he's shooting 300 and sets the parallax at 300, that it's over-focused, which could hold true to your post that if you're set at 220 it's clear as a bell at 300.

Well then is isn't "set properly".
Set properly is when the image is clear. Damn the label.
Nighforce only recently put labels on them...

While it would still be fairly close the parallax is labeled in meters is it? I know my schmidt is and some others are.

I've found the same to be true with mine as well. At 1235 I had to adjust it slightly higher, but like you, I don't look at the numbers and just adjust by look. I didn't even think to see what "number" was clear at 1235 though.

Just looked, yes it is in meters. That's communist!
At any rate, doesn't matter to me what the label says. The fact that I can get clear at 300 yards, and it holds to 800, is pretty darned handy!

I believe it's a military thing especially since nf has a few military contracts now. Agreed my premier is like the old nf scopes and unmarked. With the schmidt I just throw the setting at the mid distance I'm shooting then adjust if it's needed. That premier it hardly ever matters on it's so forgiving it's crazy.

Used to be the entire military used meters, but Snipers used yards.
Maybe that is not the case anymore.

I believe they switched to metric when they went with the MIL turrets.

Lol I still have both too even have a mix still too...... I can run both pretty easily. Sometimes it takes a minute to convert if it's been a while but I try and speak wind in mph instead of hold value.

Re: Focus on the Nightforce ATACR - 05/08/19 10:12 PM
I speak in mph and angle, but it translates to a number.
