Looking for scope advice

Looking for scope advice - 04/05/19 01:37 AM

Hey gents, I am going to be buying a Christensen Arms Ridgeline in 300 WSM very soon and I am looking for some advice on what glass to put on it. The primary use for this rifle is going to be hunting large cervids (moose, elk, etc.) and large antelope (oryx, gemsbok, kudu, etc.). I will also use it to punch paper/steel at longer ranges (300-600 yards). Due to hunting being the primary use, I am not looking for a big scope that will go to 24X. 12-15X is more than enough magnification. I would also prefer a FFP scope as it makes judging distance in the field a bit easier (no need to adjust magnification). Finally, I would prefer a reticle that can be seen in low light without being illuminated (just one more thing to break while in the field). Some of these tactical reticles are too thin and cluttered for my tastes.
My budget is around $1200. I can get pretty good deals on Bushnell, Burris and Vortex scopes (40-50% off MSRP) so recommendations on one of those brands are appreciated, but I am not opposed to listening to other opinions.

Thanks in advance!

Lots of good Busnell and Burris options.

Pretty much any, that are your parameters they both make, will be very good. Burris XTR II makes a fine 3-15X and you'd be happier with the Mil-dot than the SCR-Mil reticle, when it is turned down to low magnification.

Oh, and they're all heavy. The only one that has good reports (very little personal experience) that is a tad lighter is the Nightforce SHV. They make an F-1 (FFP) in 4-16X as well as 5-25X. If you're military (active or retired) Law Enforcement, or Fire/EMS they also have discounts available.

Burris Veracity 3-15x gets my vote.

Thanks guys. Both of those scopes look pretty solid. I am liking the look of the XTR, but the reticle in the Veracity looks great too. Not a huge fan of 50mm objectives due to having to mount them so high, but I can get over that.
And with the discount that I get, both are well within my price range.

The G2 reticle in the Bushnell LRHS isn’t too busy IMO. What you’re talking about is exactly what that scope was designed for. Check it out if you can.

I got one last summer and liked it so much I bought another. The 4 Mil circle around the center does make it a bit busy when judging game but I love everything else about it.

I'm not sure they are still making it, may have to search around for a used one.

x3, I have them. I've posted about these. The VX5 HD I have in 3-15 x 42 is part of my favorite tote it all day hunting set up.
