Adjustable parralax or fixed?

Replacing the scope on my target 22lr. Most shots will be taken between 50 and 100yrds, possibly for longer shots is there with a max of 200 yrds. I've been looking at a leupold freedom rimfire 2-7 it has a fixed 60yrd parralax, the other option I'm considering is a Burris mtac 4.5-14 with adjustable parralax. The Burris is about 100$ more. My question is with a fixed 60 yrd parralax how will that affect shooting at 100 plus yrds? Is it worth the extra 100$ to have the flexibility in parralax or will the difference be negligible?

As a side note I'm aware these are very different scopes, I'm not trying to compare the two specifically, just the parralax aspect of it

I hate "features" on scopes. But I am also the new guy around here and not a competitive shooter, I've never fired any of my personal weapons past 100 meters, ever.

I plink a lot with an air rifle. If you are gonna put a variable on something that is primarily used inside of 30 yards, there are precious few scopes available with fixed parralax inside this range. Adjustable parallax is the way to go if you like to shoot up close and prefer a variable.

In a fixed 4x scope on a rimfire? I would probably go with the fixed parallax as close as you can get it.

Not entirely necessary for a 22LR. I'd prefer all my scopes had adjustable parallax, but if you were going to get away with not having it, a 22LR would be the right place to get away with it.

I went adjustable, Nikon prostaff 7 3-12 with side focus. Decided to try it over the Burris due to having the focus on the side instead of on the bell. Link below if anyone is interested in specs

I like it. I hate scopes with a lot of features because I feel like my money is paying for features instead of quality. At the price point with those features I think you did good.

Personally I draw the line at battery operated illuminated reticles. Other than on a red dot I can't stand them.

I cant use red dots, I have astigmatism in my eyes, I dont see a dot I see either a star or a half moon. I can on the other hand use holographic and illuminated reticles. I have a vortex strike eagle I'm waiting to come in that I got as part of a rebate deal on a recent purchase, I'm looking forward to trying that one out

Many shooters don't understand scope parallax and the [/i]potential[i] error that can be caused by parallax. Parallax aiming error only occurs when your eye is in a different place within the sight picture as compared to the previous shot. If your eye alignment is consistent, then there is no parallax error at all. Even when the eye is moved from one side of the sight picture to the other, the error introduced at 100 yards from a 60 yard parallax correction is negligible. Unless you are shooting formal targets from benchrest a scope with adjustable parallax is of no usefulness on a .22 Rimfire.

Did you ever have an occasion when two different shooters shot the same rifle and each shot quite decent and consistent groups -- but one group was left of center and the other group right of center, or high and low? Well, that's likely due to parallax because one guy holds the rifle so that his eye is at one extreme of the sight picture while the other guy's eye is at the other extreme. Still, even at maximum error, an imperfect parallax setting usually never comes into play when the same person is shooting the rifle.

If you're never going to change the distance you shoot with a scope, a fixed parralax might work. Might because every eyeball is different. Keep in mind, a side focus scope will also allow you to focus in closer than 100 yards. Your fixed parralax scope may he hindrance at 50 yards.

I'll never own a fixed parralax scope, not even on a .22lr. To me, it is like having a car, you cannot turn the steering wheel on. Adjustments are necessary.

I zeroed 3 different brands fixed-focus scopes for a buddy yesterday. All 3 looked slightly out of focus on max magnification at 50 yards. Not terrible, but definitely noticeable. After that, looking through my side-focus scope was like watching a movie in 4k.

When I bought that new Tikka 22 LR, I just put my extra scope on it, which was an old (but redone) Leupold Vari-X III 4.5-14. I had sent it back to Leupold for the Varmint Hunter reticle. It was a great accidental decision. The crosshairs are fine, which I like, and it has the BDC lines. I found that the third line below the crosshairs is dead on at 100 yards at 14 power, using SV ammo. And, the parallax adjusts down to 25 yards. If the Burris will adjust down to 25 yards, it might be a good choice.

I bought the Nikon linked above, should be here Friday. Hopefully a range report in two weeks

Not crazy about a duplex, but that is a heck of a scope for the $. I've looked at the PS7 scopes, and thought the glass was really outstanding for the price range.

Same problem for me. You have to pay a bit more and get a “prism” red dot scope. Then you’ll see a perfectly round reticle. I picked one up at a nice discount at the NRA convention last year.
