Nikon Laserforce rangefinder binocular question

The Nikon Laserforce rangefinder binocular has 2 modes, 1 with horizontal distance and 1 with actual distance. I know that one of these modes is suppose to be used when you are shooting downhill but I am not sure which one. Which mode do you use for normal hunting and which mode for uphill or downhill. Which mode would you leave them for the majority of the time? I am new to rangefinders and any input would be greatly appreciated.

After doing a little research and common sense, I finally think I have answered my question. You should use the horizontal mode for all normal shooting and the angle mode for downhill shooting.

Use the angle mode for all of it.

I am really confused again. In the manual there are 2 modes, horizontal distance mode and actual distance mode. In the picture it shows that shooting downhill the actual distance mode is a little further than the horizontal distance mode would be so I thought horizontal distance mode would be correct mode but now it seems like actual distance mode is correct in all situations. Which is the angle mode that you are talking about and which mode for most situations?

Just leave it in Horizontal Distance Mode if you want to use the distance you ranged for trajectory calculations. You'll see < on the right side of the screen when in this mode. This is not actual distance but is calculated horizontal distance based on inclination.

I called Nikon technical support and they said that I should use horizontal distance for all normal shooting and hunting activities and to use the actual distance (angle mode), when shooting downhill or uphill. Thanks for all the input.

That is incorrect. There are 2 modes, Horizontal Distance mode and Actual Distance mode. Actual distance mode measures the actual distance from the range finder to the object being ranged. Actual Distance is not "Angle Mode". Horizontal Distance mode is a calculated horizontal distance based on inclination. When in Horizontal Distance mode you will see a angle symbol < on the right side of your screen. Horizontal Distance is the default mode. If you want to measure a distance up or down hill to calculate bullet trajectory you use the Horizontal Distance mode measurement.
