How far will your range finder CONSISTENTLY range a deer? Make and model please.

Furthest I have ranged a deer is 207, but it will do further. Advertised to range deer to 900 but im a pretty big skeptic of that.

Leupold 800. I have ranged deer at 500 yds but not consistently.

I guess you saw my other thread. But to be sure my data is in your discussion, here’s what I have so far:

Nikon 600 (maybe 8 years old). It will, if you try and try again, range a deer, hog, or coyote to 400 yards. That is the absolute max range on critters of that type and size. I can easily range the other side of my hay field, at 500 yards. I have ranged a truck, some years back, at around 900 yards, and shiny road signs at similar distances.

Sig Kilo 1250 (new). I have, one time, ranged a deer at 570 yards, but since then have tried unsuccessfully to range deer known to be at less than 500 yards. Tried again and again yesterday to range deer that were where the 570 yard doe was, but got nothing but frustration. All I want is a RF that will give me a solid and easy 500 yard range on something coyote size.

More data. I just got back from the blind, hunting what my Dad used to call the Noon Express. No deer took the express, but I did fiddle around with the Nikon 600 and the new Sig Kilo 1250 for a comparison.

Ranging trees. Max with the Nikon was 570 yards. Max with the Sig was 730 yards.

No doubt the Sig has more range on some things, but nothing I plan to shoot and eat.

I’m going to send the Sig Kilo 1250 back to Amazon and then buy something else. Probably that will be the Sig 2200, but that isn’t final.

Gunwerks G7 BR2 ranged a mule deer buck at just over 1,700 yds . Range finder was owned by a the friend that came up mule deer hunting and is an avid long range shooter. He gifted it to us this year before his big non typical was taken as he had a new range finder and kestrel setup.
This range finder is amazing, fast and accurate. Lots to learn yet about using it to it's full potential.

Leica 1000 (I believe, not at home so I could double check when I get home). Ranged deer over 700 yards and one at over 900 yards along a tree bank, so may have been ranging the trees and not the deer. Can routinely range animals in the 6-700+ yard range with a support of some sort. Hands are too jittery longer than about 500 yards for most game sized animals unsupported.

I wanted something with good eye relief, easy to use, and consistently ranged out to 3-400 yards. Not going to take any shots that long anyway, so I probably overbought, but it is a very nice set up. I use it routinely as my eyes when I am bowhunting, and as an extra set of eyes when I am (guiding) hunting with my kids during gun season.

This looks like something I could get behind and also meets 603Country’s needs. Just found them $369-399. Please keep them coming guys.

Texas Buckeye, I definitely would like to hear more real world ranging data on that Leica 1000. Will it easily range deer at 500+? If so, I’m in...

Last evening I read many reviews on the Leica, and found that most reviews were by target shooters. That’s pretty much the same with other rangefinder reviews. That type info, distances to reflective long range targets, doesn’t help me much. I want real world data on ranging critters like coyotes or mud slathered hogs. That type info has been hard for me to find.

I have an older Leupold 1000, I'll test it on some animals next week. Trees and such it will go 750 to 800. I think I ranged a shiny barn at over 900 with it.

I use the Bushnell 1600 ARC, and I have lasered deer well over 1000 yards. Easily at 600-800 yards. There are a few locations we hunt from that are 600 to 800-1000 yards. Find a model that has reports of short battery life, and that's a good LRF. The models that go through batteries fast use more energy to function. My Bushnell is one of those! We have lasered larger targets over 2000 yards. On our "Sniper Hill" deer stand we have a feeder at 782 yards. It will laser deer there no problem.

My smaller hand held Leica is great for general field use out to about 500-600 yards. But it has trouble much past that for animals. Steel targets or larger items, no problem out to 1K.
