Nightforce Bandwagon

Nightforce Bandwagon - 08/19/18 02:19 PM

The Cabelas bargain cave gave up a gem yesterday!!

I have been playing riflescope roulette with my hunting rifles and finally got things where I liked- but that left me one short on a rifle I plan to use this fall (my 7RUM). I was hoping to take advantage of the fall 'sale' and maybe cash in some gift cards and points on a new riflescope. I had compared the Zeiss V4 6-24, Leupold LRP 8.5-25, VX5HD 3-15, and Nightforce SHV 5-20.

Since this scope was going on my most capable rifle for long range shooting I wanted to get the best glass and mechanics I could for my budget.

Long story short- I stopped in the bargain cave after the optics counter and there was a big Nightforce box with a returned NXS!! And I made the mistake of opening it up and checking it out.... No marks anywhere on the scope, sticker still on the obj bell-- it has the MOAR and HS/ZS turrets, -- there just wasn't any paperwork or box items included. Loved the reticle, the turrets were the best I had touched on any scope I compared and even though it was heavy I'm not one to count ounces.

So-- since it was in budget it DEFINITELY made the drive home with me- now I just need to get it mounted up and dialed in next weekend!

Before using some gift cards and points it was $1300+tax; model is the NXS C437

That was a nice deal. That's an awesome reticle too.

I couldn't be happier with how it all worked out-- nice to find an actual bargain from time to time!

Nice! I wonder if they are slowly rolling out old stock or something?

Nice deal! When my friends/co-workers ask for scope advice I usually tell them a good deal on a NXS is still a very good choice, they're rock solid.

Remember the hash marks won't be accurate unless you're on full magnification, and there's a lot of times 32x will be way too much if you're trying to hold for wind in the field. You might have to depend on dialing the wind instead. No big deal, just something to remember!

The nice thing on the 8-32x is Nightforce kept the subtension settings at 22x-- so the MOAR reticle is 'MOA correct' for holdovers and ranging at 22x and not 32x. On most of the other models you do have to be at max magnification for the reticle subtensions to be correct.

You do have to find the 'R' which takes the place of the '22' on the magnification ring which could be a pain-- but ideally if I'm above 22x to shoot an animal it'll be a deliberate dialing situation for elevation and wind like you said!
