Nikon BLACK FX1000 - 04/18/18 12:15 AM

Just checking to see if any of you have got your hands on Nikon's newest FFP scope yet. They have been in stores the past few weeks but from what I have heard from online retailers they have sold out quickly. If you got one I'd love to get your impression's. A few guys have asked me when they were coming out and the answer is now.

What is the street price?

Re: Nikon BLACK FX1000 - 04/18/18 01:51 AM

With the MSRP they appear very affordable, now if they live up to the hype then they will be a good value

I checked in with your Nikon rep yesterday, via e-mail. The short version of the reply is, he should have some for demo very soon.

I think there is a very good chance this becomes one of the best low-cost tactical options along with the XTR and PST Gen 2, but priced slightly lower.

That is good new's JG, I haven't touched one since SHOT Show. Hopefully, I'll get my mitt's on one soon. I have a Bergara in 6.5 cm that I can't wait to test out. I have been using a couple of the BLACK X1000's for the last year and the BLACK FX1000 has some real upgrades I think you guys will appreciate.

I’d like to demo one with the option that purchase. I’ve got 2 matches coming up in June and July that would be a good test for the tracking ability.

Look to be $799 everywhere online right now for 6-24 and Amazon has the 4-16 for $646

Barton, why don't you send one to Formidilosis over on 24HCF and let him put one through the ringer? It will get a "riforouos" workout to say the least.

That would be enlightening

I had more or less decided that the FX-1000 the 4-16x50 MRAD non-illuminated was what i wanted for my long range .3006. Now i just need to find one for sale somewhere. i'm located in San Antonio and haven't been able to find one anywhere.

none of the mainstream sporting goods stores seem to have one. If someone knows where i can get one let me know.

I think the results are fairly predictable.

So you think it is going to sit in my safe?

The man of whom they speak tests for government agencies...military, if I'm not mistaken. He does very mean things to scopes and breaks them way more often than not, as I hear it.

I think Formid forgot more about optics, rifles, bullets, and what works than you'll ever know. Probably because he sees hundreds of thousands of rounds shot with most every conceivable piece of equipment there is.

Re: Nikon BLACK FX1000 - 04/20/18 12:30 AM

So without sugar coating it and being a fan boy of either, I saw one today at a large unpopular box store and here is what I saw in a comparison of the said Nikon 4x16x50 vs a Gen 2 pst 3x15x44 ffp

The very un scientific in store test with in store lighting like we view most scopes-
Both scopes set up the same-
8x
Parallax set to 75 yards
Approx 60 yards to a white card on an end cap reading the lettering and numbers

Winners of category

Turrets- PST 2 by far as far as nice clicks, Nikon was better than the last attempt but still mushy and cheap plastic
Length - PST a little shorter both had sun shades on
Reticle (opinion category ) PST 2 by far , Nikon clustered hash marks did not win me and are nothing special
Illumination- Only the Nikon had a battery in it but it was bright ( didn't put much into this inside)
Weight- The Nikon was 50mm and still lighter than the PST2, makes me wonder robustness
Glass- Close but again I have to give the edge to the PST2, it appeared brighter and I would think other since the Nikon is 50mm. This needs to be determined at dusk or real low light
Overall cosmetic and visible materials - PST2 , Nikon cheaped out

So this is what my eyes saw and my unbiased report. After looking at both there is 0 doubt I would pick the PST2 without question. I did not even look at price because this store pretty much uses MSRP and nobody should pay that. If the PST 2 was $200 more, I would pay it. Overall I was disappointed with the Nikon because I wanted to like it.
It will all come down to tracking in the field in the end to be trusty and proven.

Helpful report BIL. Hopefully I can get my hands on one, and see what it can do.

Re: Nikon BLACK FX1000 - 04/20/18 04:17 PM

Granted it's been a few months since I have had my hands on a BLACK FX1000 scope but I do not recall the turret's being anything but aluminum with etching. I was very impressed by the succinct tactile clicks as well. As for the glass, that is definitely a subjective conclusion and one that we agree would be best done outdoors in a low light setting. The 4-16x50 runs $749 and the PST 2 $1299. The zero stop on the BLACK FX1000 is a great design and easy to set.

Re: Nikon BLACK FX1000 - 04/21/18 12:08 AM

Thanks BIL.

I do agree the PST2 has decent turrets, especially for the price. And the reticle on the Nikon is just ok in comparison. However, if Nikon can have equivalent glass quality to the PST2 and turrets that are accurate/reliable, I think that’s all it will take to make the Nikon extremely popular. Barton is right about the price difference. Tons of people in this low/mid price range would give up some turret ergonomics and a tree reticle to save 30%.

Re: Nikon BLACK FX1000 - 04/21/18 12:12 AM

That being said, street price may not reveal a 30% price difference.

Re: Nikon BLACK FX1000 - 05/03/18 12:16 AM

Looked at several Black models early this week. The turret adjustments were mushy as noted previously. The three I looked at also had turret hash marks that did not line up with the marks on the scope body. Doubt it affects anything, but would probably drive me crazy.
