Elevation

Elevation - 01/10/18 06:15 PM

I can't seem to get enough elevation out of my Photon. I had it mounted on my daughters 243 Vanguard but had to put the regular scope on it for deer season. I bought a 308 Vanguard to dedicate to a hog rifle. Same mounts, can't get my zero high enough. I bought some Talley rings (the other mount was on a rail with a 1 pc scope mount on top of that) but still have the same problem. I might not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but this baffles me. I don't want to shim the scope but i will if I have to. The Talley rings got me closer but not close enough. I've read where the front needs to be shimmed and where the back needs the shim. Mind you, this ain't my first time mounting scopes. Suggestions?

Try switching the rings, front to back and back to front.

It looks like the adjustments are 25mm per click at 100 meters. That's about .98" (inches per click) and the total amount of clicks is 60. That's 58.8" of total travel. Half of that is 29.4", which should be enough with a zero moa base. If you have a 20 MOA base, this only leaves you 9.4" of up travel, which is not enough cushion for a proper zero. Just a thought.

I thought of that Chad but the mounting hole spacing is different front to back on the Vanguard. I like that the rings get the scope lower to the bore vs. the rail+rings on the other mount but it appears I need to start shimming regardless of which mount I use.

My Photon had to be shimmed on the rear in the Burris PEPR mount.
