I shoot a SMOA/MIL scope. It's horrendous. And i only bought it earlier this year. #regrets

I got it because I had a small budget and needed a scope and didn't like the glass on the Vortex in said budget. It was the best bang for the $300 buck. I don't shoot much past 300yd and I don't need to dial or hold for wind out to that distance (2 SMOA @ 300, no wind holds at 15+mph half value wind)

Also if I didn't retain or listen to THF I wouldn't express regret.

Want to replace it with a MOA TANGO4 in the somewhat near future.

What's SMOA?

And obviously BIL is right, the majority do use Mils, yet you're going to get a new one in MOA.

What gun? Hunting at animal parks with spotlights ? And how much do you want to spend?

Several new scopes in the last couple years out and if I remember right your base and rings (foundation) were your main factor

If you're going to buy another scope in that price range, with the ability to dial or hold corrections, why not a fixed power SWFA SS ? Or pay a little more for a used SS 3-9? Guys rave about their tracking and durability. I haven't run either of mine hard but I like the glass and build quality so far.

I'm no kind of LR shooting expert, so this may only be worth what you paid for it, but I see no reason to mess with an MOA based scope once you move past standard duplex hunting optics.

SMOA is shooter's MOA. Basically the "1 inch at 100yd" thing.

I like MOA! The TANGO4 is a MIL/MIL or MOA/MOA deal in FFP. Anton, this scope is not in the $300 range that my current scope is. My .22-250, the issue of the bases was solved a few months ago and that was on the .30-06. I already know what scope I want, which I've mentioned twice here (or a Viper PST Gen ii) and it's in the $800 range, so an upgrade from $300 range. Also, what's wrong with hunting exotics at night?

I think the issue is you have complained about the same problem on several occasions and seem to not to listen to peoples advise on the matter. I would say at this point you either need deal with what you have and shut up, or upgrade and deal with the additional expense of getting glass that does what you want it to do. There is NO middle ground.

Very well put. I listen to people's input and keep it in my mind. I don't always apply it. I am happy with the scope I have and the purposes it serves. I will upgrade to a better scope down the road, definitely.

I don't think complaining is the same as expressing regret: the purpose of this post was to ridicule my mistake and express regret, not complain that I have a crappy scope (which I don't think I do) or complain that I'm not fortunate enough to upgrade (which is my situation, but that's nothing I would complain about).

I need to remember that this forum is pretty much no-nonsense and not social media and not millennials or post-millennials. It was hyperbolic and humorous, instead taken as Oh look at that kid being dumb again. Thanks for the reminder, been on Instagram too much lately

I didn't read any of your previous posts but I took the original post here as a mea culpa and self deprecating post. I'm gen X if that matters.

You seem like a good kid, but if memory serves you have made recent posts where you missed several shots at short and medium ranges.

It’s kinda strange to see you make all these posts giving thoughts/opinions on technical stuff and then read other posts with you flinging lead with poor results on animals at 80-300 yards.

Work on your shooting. Take JGs course or something.

You are smart and next semester will be starting in couple of weeks. Make your wish/dream list and start saving for that upgrade..."cry once" purchase and then you will have less regrets over the lower/middle ground purchases that you are not pleased with (buyer's remorse). In the interim, enjoy what you have and shoot as often as you can.

You don't need a new scope just because others tell you what you have is no good. Be your own man. Don't be a conformist and don't trust anyone over thirty.

This. If what you have is all you can afford then take it out, figure out where it hits at various ranges with your weapon/ammo combo and be happy.

5.0 Mils will get most cartridges past 700 yards, in the right hands.

I like my .30-30 anyway
