.22 scope choices

Looking for ideas to see if I'm missing something

I have an upper end .22 that's still naked. I'm wanting something low x 1-2 up to 8-10x. I want a reticle with some decent windage hashes , many just have elevation. I really like floating dots or crosshairs

I really like the xtr2 1x8 but it's more than I want to spend. Anything in the lower end of the spectrum made in the Philippines atleast, not china

Ideas?

I haven't decided, but I would rather be in the $200 league rather than the 400 league but honestly I'm going back and forth. I've looked at A lot! Y'all would laugh if you know how many toys I look at a week educating my opinion

A while back I was in the market for a new 22lr scope. For the price, the Nikon rimfire 3-9 looked like a good deal, and it had BDC, which I thought might be useful with that caliber. I put it on my old 39A and I really like the scope. Very sharp and clear, and my accuracy has improved a bit from glass clarity and brightness. The old Leupold 2-7 scope that the Nikon replaced was pretty dim.

I looked at a Nikon today, liked the glass and clarity, made in phillipines but that crappy Nikon reticle with circles is no go. If they didn't put the top circle so close to the cross hairs it would improve that scope.

If you think the rifle is capable of hitting bottle caps at 50 to 75 yards, you might want to consider an AO or side focus scope.

Do you have a requirement for or have considered close focus and parallax capability in your search?

A fixed 4x is perfect on a .22

Not really. Never had all that stuff and don't know what all I need

I bought the Bushnell Rimfire 3-12 and have found it to be a solid performer. If they put a reticle with windage holds it would be perfect. I have used the duplex as my windage guide with reasonable results out to 300. The reality of a wind call at 300 with a 22 is a lot of art regardless of your tools. If the windage holds are a deal breaker it is not the scope for you but short of that I can recommend it.

I recommended that Nikon with the BDC, but I wasn't fond of the little BDC donuts for aiming. But I went ahead and bought the scope. I've found that with the Nikon Spot-On app, I can dial the power to give a dead on donut for 80 yards, which lets me keep critters off my corn feeder. So, donuts or not, it works pretty well, and it didn't cost a lot. I've grown rather fond of it.

Having recently been down the road of trying to scope a .22, I'll put this out there.

I have three scoped 10/22s in various configurations. None are really target rifles. All have aftermarket barrels and triggers and stocks but none are heavy bench guns.

Scope #1 is a SS Classic 1-4x which is really an AR scope. It works just fine for hunting small game at typical 25-50 yard small game ranges. I don't worry about parallax on this one as it has not been a problem. It does suck for target shooting though.

Scope #2 is a Clearidge 3-9x32 mildot with front parallax adjustment. Basically the same scope as the Weaver V9 rimfire. In fact I think they are the same scope. Works really well as an all-rounder for hunting and target and has enough magnification to stretch the cartridge.

Scope #3 is a SS 3-15 SFP something or other. Bought early in the summer when they had them for $399.
Great target and long range scope for a .22 IMO.
It is relatively large and heavy but it checked most of the boxes I wanted for this last rifle which is the heaviest of all three rifles:

Mil/mil....check
Elevation and windage type reticle....check (also has floating dot)
Parallax down under 10 yards.....check
External turrets....check

I don't think there is a perfect answer for any rifle that will be multi-use (hunting and target) but a 3-9 with a good reticle and parallax adjustment would be the sweet spot for me.

That little Leupold has all the features you might ever want, minus the windage marks in the reticle. You have your reasons for wanting them, but I would have little use at all for that since I won't shoot over 100 yards with a .22 rimfire. I understand the practicality for a long-range centerfire, but not a rimfire. The EFR feature is another thing I can live without. I have a rimfire rifle that is capable of sub-MOA shooting, so I put a VX-III 4.5-14x40mm AO on it.

I believe an accurate rimfire rifle deserves fine optics.

I zeroed mine at 50 yards, in July. Then shot it out to 300 yards. That's fun!

I borrowed the SS 5-20 HD off my 7mm-08 to do it.

I really like that number 3 and missed the sale, love that dot reticle. I'll check out the centerpoint, I have not viewed those yet

All my rimfires are sub moa and all wear low mag Leupys with AO. When you change from 20 yards to 75 yards, it's nice to be able to see your target.

I didn't know BIL asked for everyone's most bad [censored] bragging story with a .22 but right on queue here you are with yours.

Did you know BIL, Buzz, KRoyal, 2beez, and several others are wanting me to have a .22 lr match? I'm betting that's a partial reason he got that rifle. Once all of us get rigged up, and have a match, there's a good chance it will be repeated many times over. Thus the story. And hopefully BIL realizes he needs a pic rail for the rifle, out of the story. And it's not bragging if a guy can do it. All I did was experiment, so that I could find out if it is possible.

I have the Clearidge Rimfire scope mentioned by RHutch except it has a duplex reticle. I also suspect it the same as the Weaver. The only dedicated Rimfire scope I'd rather have than my Clearidge is the VX-2 RiverRider posted a link to from Midway.

BIL, the Vortex Viper (not PST) comes with 2 MOA windage hash marks out to 8 MOA. I think you can find them on sale occasionally for under $400. P_102

Depends on the application. You can do a lot of different stuff with a .22

I've even seen one used as a hammer.

I use a 4x32 nikon on my 10-22 and it works perfect for what I do (kill turtles and cans). Definitely wouldn't use it for what Jason is talking about.

Got it at midway for about $400.

Focus down to 10 yards & MOA reticle. with the 20x magnification I can see holes in paper out to 100y.

The reticle is a little thin, and can be hard to see in low light, but it serves my purposes well.

I have Leupold on most of my other rifles, the sightron had the features I was looking for and was lower cost. There may be higher quality optics out there, but I feel like I got what I paid for. I would recommend it.
