Viper PST FFP 6-24 vs Sightron SIII FFP 6-24 - 09/30/15 11:38 PM

So I'm getting a new custom 6.5x284 and I'm struggling with which glass to go with. I've read mostly great things about both of these. I'm keeping my budget under 1k and am mostly decided that it will be one of these 2 though I am open to ideas. For those of you that have used either of these scopes, please give me some insight. Thanks in advance!

I have had the Vortex PST but not the Sightron. With that said, I loved that PST. I regret selling it for cash when I needed it. Glass was clear even at 24 power and eye relief and clarity were superb for an $800 scope.

I prefer the glass in the Sightron SIII. I have 5 of them in SFP. I have never needed a FFP scope for field usage, although my Swaro's are FFP.
That said,If you are really wanting a FFP scope,go with the Viper PST. The MOA-2 reticle in the Sightron SII FFP disappears at low magnification, the lines are too thin.

The reticle on the FFP isn't the MOA-2. It's a MH reticle. It definitely looks different than the MOA-2 so I'd hope they would have fixed the problem in the thickness.

I too have both and I would also say if you are looking FFP I may lean to Vortex as I
Iike their reticle selection better. Otherwise Sightron to my eyes has better glass and while I have only had the Sightron a few weeks I have ran it to 1000 several times and back to zero and it tracks very well and always returns to zero.
I also ran the Sightron on a large vertical target at 100 yards with a plumb line. I shot a dot then dialed 30MOA and measured how much elevation I gained. It should have been 31.41 and my bullet hole was 32 so really with a 1/2 inch shooting rifle its within the margin of error. I was mainly checking to see if I had the scope/ rifle bubble level good and it was as it followed the line up and back down for two shots. Second shot I dialed 25 MOA and again tracked good.

Bump for more info. I, too, am looking @ these 2 scopes as well as the SWFA SS FFP 3-15x42.

Based on DStroud's post the SS 3-15 X will be in third place on glass clarity, as compared to the Sightron he reported and the Viper PST. The SS 3-15 is not in their "HD" line of glass, and the lesser clarity is immediately apparent when comparing it side by side with the SS 5-20 HD, and a Viper PST. Epsecially looking beyond 250 yards.
