night vision filming and muzzle flash

I did a lot of killing last year with night vision and filmed some also. The main problem i had was the muzzle flash of the rifle distorting the image turning it white for a second or two. I did notice that it wasn't as bad if I had my unv ir off. I'm wondering if some type of flash hider or barrel extension would be more beneficial. I've even considered a fake suppresser to keep down the flash. But before I made a move I was going to have a meeting with the minds to see what's yalls take.

IR reflectivity white-out!

It worked better with the IR turned off because what you are getting isn't so much muzzle flash but IR reflection off the smoke and debris that comes out of your muzzle when you fire. If you spent more time with it, you would find the problem is exponentially worse on very calm days and non-existent on windy days. On calm days it can be so bad that it turns a semi-auto into a single shot, only because you can't see any longer.

True muzzle flash, which you may get, should not last more than a frame or two.

I don't think a fake suppressor will do you much good for this problem. It won't trap the smoke and debris that is going to come out of the muzzle.

This is probably the best example. I have multiple shots on two different targets in the same evening with white-out issues slowing down the followup shots. Plus, not only was it calm, but a bit foggy.

and you already hit on one solution which is the fake supressor, although depending on it's true function you may see a dribble of burn off residue (smoke) which could be a new twist on the reflectivity scene.

Another guy in another forum says he shoots using the cross wind to assist in clearing the smoke from the cameras view. Not that it is necessarily optimal but hey if you have a chance to setup cross ways to target then why not.

How is that 6.8 SPC working out for you?

Thanks I knew it was something of that nature. Kinda like a spotlight in the fog. I guess I'll just such it up.

Working good killed a couple with lights. About an 1" @ 100 is about all I can squeeze out of it. I will work on different types of ammo even more to see if I can get tighter groups. But killing power is ehh.
