Opinions on new Bushnell 6500 - 12/09/14 01:47 PM

My wife got herself a Tikka 270 Hunter is currently wearing a temp scope. So trying to get her a permanent setup.

I hear lately that Bushnell's mid to higher lines have had vast improvements. I've also seen and heard a bunch people like that Bushnell elite tactical with the FFP, which usually I assume means the glass is good quality based on the type of people I hear purchasing these.

Th point: Anyone have much experience and thoughts on the Bushnell 6500 in general and/or the 4.5-30x model? I especially want to hear tales about the glass quality/clarity as is compares to something like a Ziess scope and if the reticles hold and track well.

I don't wanna hear about FFP and that I don't need that much magnification on a rifle or it's too big, etc. My wife shoots enough to know what she wants and I've learned along time ago what works for me doesn't always work for her. So she knows what she wants and she wants more magnification than 14x on my leupold, likes 50mm lens scopes, doesn't mind size/weight and is high quality glass.
FYI, my alternative to this would be a similar magnification range Zeiss or Stiener, but they will be about $250 more or European glass.

thanks in advance,
-kr

They are every bit comparable to the ziess conquests or higher Leupold's. They really aren't meant to dial but I've found they handled it fine. The ones I've used have held zero fine bouncing around day after day in old ranch trucks.

Not sure I would put bushnell in the same category as Zeiss The new Conquest HD5 riflescope line offers premium performance and field versatility in a compact and lightweight – yet rugged – body at a more affordable price.
The newly enhanced optical design provides extremely bright images and contrast, even at high magnifications and in low light conditions. New LotuTec hydrophobic coatings shed moisture and protect the external lenses against scratching. I would say go in to staore and look at the 3 and let your eyes determine which is best

A inside of a store is the worst place to test glass. Unless the new conquests are that much better than the old conquests I stand by my statement. I was not impressed in the low light performance when tested.

dee let me be clear go to the store about 1/2 hour before sunset and go outside and test. there are ways to test inside if the conditions are right (not optimum) our eyes are the biggest variable generally in the same assortment - self testing is better than this one is better because I own it I would suggest to field test to judge different attributes... I don't choose zeiss personally because the eye relief and box does not set up for me but... not sure if bushnell is in the same cat as a VX6...disclaimer my last bushnell's I blew out the glass and the other would not hold Zero they might be a good entry level scope but not a 1st choice to match with a sub moa gun

I can say the new LHRS 3-12x44 is outstanding..
Even low light compared to Z6HD, SB, Kahles.

The Elite Tac series is one of the primary scopes being used in the PRS game of long range shooting. I wouldn't touch a Bushnell unless it is a Elite the others are just cheap junk.

So the consensus here is that the Bushnell Elite 6500 glass (meaning clarity) and reticle (meaning hold and tracks) quality is very good.
Did I get that right?

I don't know about the 6500 series
But like Dee said, the Elite Tactical series are being used heavily in the PRS series

the 3-12 LRHS is a FFP scope and it's glass is every bit as good as the new Nightforce NSX 2.5-10x42 (which has better glass than previous NFs I have used) The LRHS has a bit better contrast which I like, but the NF is a tad lighter.. arg, decisions

I have narrowed down my next hunting scope down to these two since both are offered in moa now.

Have had a 2.5-15 6500 on the 50BMG, it holds up to the recoil and still tracks well. Glass is IMO not quite up to the Swaro Z6 of the same magnification but is extremely close. Looking back could have saved 1k and been happy with another 6500.

Going have to run out and take a 2nd look at the 6500 - Is bushnell the the major sponsor of PRS?

They sponsor/host a couple matches. Biggest thing is they listen and adjust to the people buying the products.

All I knew is they sponsored a few didn't know they did that much. Here is more of a reason to the use of them. They flat perfom well.

The higher end Elite Tac supposedly share glass with the 6500.
