Vortex Observation

Seems to be a lot of lost love for Vortex floating around here lately. I still love mine however did notice something this weekend. My Leupolds and even my cheapy simmons on my 22 are much more forgiving in getting a full clear picture in the scope. For whatever reason it seems the sweet spot to get a full picture looking through the vortex is much smaller. Enough to the point that my wife chose to carry my 270 to the blind over the 243. May be swapping the vortex over to the 270.

I only have vortex binos, and I still love them (talon hd 10x42) and think they are great value for the price.

I haven't lost any love for vortex yet, but Agree with you it seems there was some love loss going on within the last few weeks.

I agree. My Viper PST really wants me to be straight behind it at just the right eye relief. That's crucial to making a good shot anyway, sight alignment. Eye relief is handled when I mount it, so I have no complaints. If I see any blackness I know I'm doing something wrong. My SS is more forgiving though.

I agree I don't have issue with it, I like the scope very much but the wife struggles to get a good site picture with it while she doesn't with my leupold. Guess that's what you get with "crossover" guns.

I have a few Vortex scopes, along with some other stuff, and don't really see this as an issue. I don't believe in Parallax-free, regardless of what vendors claim, so I actually see it as a feature. If my sight pic isn't good, the shot won't be either.

Maybe I just haven't had enough time behind this glass, while comparing it to others, to know the difference?

Same thing here. I bought a Diamondback 3-9x40 and have the same issue to the point I am thinking about going in a different direction. Even though it is only a 308, I do not like to have my eye so close to the scope. Blackeye's suck.

Just put a 4x16 diamond back on the weatherby and its great.

Love the scope and love the binos.

One thing I just have noticed about my Vortex PST FFP 4-16. When looking out at game on my hay field, I need to adjust the parallax to see clearly at high magnification. I don't seem to need to do that with my VX3's.

And...at 5:55 or so this afternoon, as I was packing up to leave the blind, I saw a dark blob off to my right. Pulled up the rifle, with the PST set at 8 power, with the light fading faaaaasssst, found a coyote in the scope and tapped him. No problems with all of that, but I did have time to try the reticle illumination, and at minimum it's still too bright.

All that said, I still like the scope and am not ready to swap it out with a VX3 4.5-14x40 with the VH reticle that is presently boxed. Got too much money in that Vortex to do nothing with it.

This is the issue that I had with the Viper HSLR. I just wasn't comfortable with it. The VX3 is a much better fit for me. I don't regret my decision at all. I've got Leupold on all my rifles and have great confidence in them.
