Buying First set of Binoculars

I'm fairly new to hunting and need a good set of Binoculars. I don't want to go crazy and would like to stay under $100 or $200. I'd also like to double up and have this for backpacking and hiking (which means big and bulky probably won't work). I hunt at 100 yards and it's not real dense. So far I've narrowed it down to a set of Bushnell 8x42 H2O Waterproof/Fogproof Roof Prism Binocular. However, I'm open to suggestions if there are much better options out there.

I know the weight factor is there, but go for at least 10X binos, you will appreciate the difference in your eyes and the weight difference will be negligible.

I would recommend looking at the vortex line, or zen-ray line, as they are mucho better for minimal cost increase, if any.

Personally, I'd go for 10x42 binocs. That's definitely my preference after 50 years of deer hunting. As for who makes them, Bushnell is a fine choice. Nikon makes good glass. Pentax makes good glass. Those three makers are easily affordable. Then there's Vortex, Leupold, Meopta, and a few others. You really do want decent glass, because looking for long periods through mediocre glass will give you a headache, and will put you back in the market for a better set of binocs. So...get good glass to start with.

Steiner makes some great binoculars, and the nice thing I about them whether you're new to carrying "field glasses" or you've always carried them, is that there is no center focus to screw with all the time. You set each individual eyepiece and then it's done. Any range. Just throw them up to your eyes and you're good to go.
