This ruling does not mean that the ban is now lifted. It just means that the lower court who originally ruled in favor of the ban will have to revisit its decision.

So while they may be legal in three 5th Circuit states, they are still illegal in 47 other states. It's a victory for sure, but it's a very limited victory.

To me it sounded like a man on a belt fed weapon who was adjusting his aim between burst but once the FBI got involved any chance of ever learning the truth vanished like smoke in the wind.

^^^^ I could be mistaken but I believe that it has been reported that every single person struck by fire was hit with a 223 caliber bullet. Overall there was a fatality rate of just under 13% of the casualties which tells me that everyone there got off pretty lucky considering how bad it could have been. Just imagine if he had used a 308 with hunting bullets design for fragmentation on light game.

In Nice, the terrorists just used a rental truck and they killed 30 more people than the lunatic in Las Vegas with his 20 or 30 rifles. By the logic of the Feds, every heavy truck in the country should be banned as a public menace.

The Nice incident brings up a point. The president said we are the only country on earth with these mass shootings. I think we come in around 15th in the world, several European countries (Finland? France?) have higher rates. It is getting close to 200 years since Colt came up with the revolver, anyone could have stuck half a dozen under his belt and committed a mass shooting. Some other issue behind it.

We've had guns since before we were a country. In the fifties and sixties you could buy them through the mail.
These mass events have increased as television has become more a major part of people's lives. Guns don't do anything. But you all know that.

I, as a gun owner, obviously think about all this. Never had all the mass shootings years ago. I know gun control won't work. Whenever I run into one of these gun control advocates I tell them I think drugs are behind a lot of gun crime and the answer is to outlaw drugs, make it illegal. The anti-gun advocate typically gasps and says, "what are you, an idiot? Drugs are ALREADY ILLEGAL" So I then ask if they are illegal and everywhere, then how would making guns illegal produce any tangible results?
I am probably wrong but the thought hit me that the gun crime issue is a subset of a larger issue, general lack of personal responsibility and discipline throughout society. We have become an uncontrollable nation of people, no respect for laws or civil order. The guns are just a manifestation of the problem and trying to enact more government control does absolutely nothing. I did NOT support the Jan 6th riots and those people ought to be sent to jail. Today's citizen seems to equate anarchy with the American experiment in self government. Anarchy leads to a dictator to stop the civil unrest. Exactly what we don't want.
When I was a kid, if you were a problem in school and the teacher told your parents, you got a "whooping" for your behavior. Today, in a world of incontrollable passions, if the same thing happens the parents become enraged and tell the school "you can't tell my kids what to do!" "I'll come after you if you ever do that again" etc.
When I was a kid there was the Boy Scouts, sports teams, Bible classes, etc. etc. all sorts of constant discipline. I think it made for a better country.
