Two Saws, One Table?

Two Saws, One Table? - 01/18/23 10:43 PM

These are my saws. I'd like to build a single table for them to share. Space is a premium so I was thinking whatever I put together will be on casters or wheels. I will be building with lumber.

Any ideas or pics? TYIA

How much room do you have for the table?

3' X 6'
4' X 8'

???

I don’t think 3x6 would be too big.

Ok, on the 6' side, mount the table saw in the bottom left corner. So, as wood is passing through the table saw it is traveling along the 3' axis.

Let's say your passing wood south to north through the table saw, so the rest makes sense.

The miter saw goes on the east side. If you're standing at the miter saw, your facing west. And make it fold down, where the saw is nose down to the ground when using the table saw. I'd use a piano hinge, and fold out legs for when you flip it up to use it.

You'll just need to measure the foot print of both saws X and Y as well as measure their depth. And then come up with a plan for the framing to hold both saws. It's going to get a bit involved, but not a terrible puzzle to solve.

And make the whole thing a big cabinet. Meaning under both saws is storage for whatever you see fit.

I'd plug those saws in to a single outlet and wire a single extension cord from the whole table to go to the wall. Plug in one cord and you're powered for everything.

Get or build some mobile stands for infeed and outfeed support.

Thank you J.G.!

This actually incorporates two ideas I've seen pics of online but I never thought of putting them together.

Is a piano hinge the same thing as a continuous hinge?

Just get a foldable portable mitre saw stand with wheels and be done with it.
Put the remaining money that you would have spent on a nice runout table for the table saw.

Yep, two separate mobile stands works best. I put mine on Bosch folding stands and they sit upright in the shop taking up much less space than a table and they remain portable to move wherever you need them. Not as cheap as a home built table, but much more flexible. Had them both ways and prefer this method. You can use them alternately without changing the setup or folding anything up or down. Let me know if you want a photo of them, got plenty of time tomorrow to set them up. Going from folded to setup is less than 30 seconds each.
