Once the walls are up I'll figure out the trees. The couple in the front I kinda want to keep for looks. Oklahoma has lots of trees if they gotta go it will be fine.

It will be done before you know it.

Yes it will be foamed. Once siding is on we'll get it wired then foamed. The 3 10x10' doors go in next week.

Framing is complete. 3/0' man door, 4 windows installed, 25'x15' awing framed out also.
Third picture is 20' of uni-strut for my 1300 lb hoist. The hoist will be able to roll 20' between the 2 10' drive through doors.

Re: Shop Build Underway - 12/15/22 06:13 AM

Now all you need to do is trim some trees and put Solar Panels on it.
Posted By: angus1956

Re: Shop Build Underway - 12/16/22 01:45 AM

Thanks, guys!

No solar panels needed, leaving a few trees around for landscape, but none will be close enough to drop leaves and stuff on the building (don't want to stain the siding) or be a fire hazard.
Part of building (side with windows) will be my mancave 30'x15' with 12' open beam ceiling with bathroom (sink & toilet). My last shop had a bedroom with full bathroom, worked out well for family and guests. We have plenty of room in the house for guests.
I wish it was bigger but thats what was in the budget.

Go to HD or Lowes and get the 1/2" or 3/4" 4x8' sheets foam board and cut to size to squeeze into the panels it will make a big difference. I once had a south facing garage and did this. It lowered the garage temperature 20 degrees. Well worth it.

Re: Shop Build Underway - 01/07/23 12:38 AM

How thick is that foam and what R value does it have?
Posted By: angus1956

Re: Shop Build Underway - 01/07/23 12:48 AM

Originally Posted by NORML as can be

Here you go. It was sprayed with 1" closed cell. That's what modern shops are sprayed with.

The R value of closed-cell is R-6.5-7 per inch, increasing structural integrity, noise barriers, moisture resistance, and creating an overall tighter building envelope. This makes closed-cell foam insulation a superior choice for insulating exterior walls and roofs—an option not suited for open-cell. There is a growing trend for closed-cell spray foam for new construction because it provides the highest R value and additional protection from extreme weather conditions. Due to the higher cost when using closed-cell, it is sometimes more efficient to insulate interior walls with open-cell foam and use closed-cell insulation for situations where moisture and the potential of heat and chill transference is more of an issue.

Re: Shop Build Underway - 01/13/23 12:55 AM

Doesn't look like much but had the ceiling and side walls painted today down to the top purling. OSB will cover up the walls 4' above the highest purling.
It took 14 gallons of paint. That foam sure sucked up the paint. The foamers said you'll only get 130 sq. Ft. Per gallon, they were right.

Re: Shop Build Underway - 01/13/23 04:57 AM

I like it

I still have not painted my ceiling and upper walls

Does the closed cell actually deteriorate with time, or just discolor?
Posted By: angus1956

Re: Shop Build Underway - 01/22/23 07:55 PM

Doesn't look like much, but 5 loads (60 yards) of roadbase for the shop approach and redid the driveway from the road to the garage.
Thank goodness for a tractor with a loader and rear scraper blade.

The rest is up to me. Shop isn't completed, but darn close.

Re: Shop Build Underway - 03/02/23 01:33 PM

All OSB wall covering is up in shop. It took 30 sheets to cover everything. I'm ready to move all stationary tools in and start working.
As you can see I screwed up one wall because the OSB has the lines on it, not the look I was after but hanging cabinets will cover most of it.
I still have to finish out the mancave section 14'x30' but that is down the road.

Re: Shop Build Underway - 06/01/23 11:42 PM

Looking great.

A buddy went to a used restaurant fixture place and got a free standing, heavy duty SS double sink for <$100. It is just outside the toilet closet. He loves it in his shop because you cannot hurt it. Fill it with water and dump hot parts in it, Soak stuff in it. Test tires for leaks. One side has a Y with valves going to the septic and a stub-out to the outside. That way, if he wants to put something in the sink that he cannot want to go to the septic, he flips the valves and drains it to a 5 gallon bucket outside.

Nice shop! I may have missed it somewhere, but what are the specifics on your slab? I.e. strength, thickness, footings, piers? Also, what is your wall height? Looks really nice.
Posted By: angus1956

Re: Shop Build Underway - 08/26/23 11:55 AM

Slab is 30'x50' with a 5'x50' sidewalk/approach 'area in front of the mandoor and 10' overhead doors. Slab thickness is 6" with footings, rebar and moisture barrier. Side wall height is 12'. Building is I Beam Construction. Slab cost was $7.75 sq. Ft. One year ago.
