Sixth Bedroom - 01/18/22 02:17 AM
Empty nesters, on social security. Why do we need a sixth bedroom? IN CASE the grand daughter brings her boyfriend home, and I wasn't doing anything this weekend anyway!! Thank you dear, get right on it!! Framed, rock, taped and sanded (Sheetrock dust will kill me before COVID). Painted and color coordinated! I need a couple drinks!!!
You do good work and fast…do you hire out? Or should we direct that question to your wife?
Looks really good…

I'm sure she'd be glad to rent me out, but I'd never see a penny of it!!!

Did you paint the outlets green or just happen to find some from the 1970’s that were the right color?

Looks great! What was that room before you turned it into a bedroom?

How did you find time for that and do the cooking?

Thanks BigPig, between you and the picture I have more work to do now. All those outlets and switches are the original almond ones from the 70's. The wife was ragging me about changing to white, and I said something like "Fur cripes sake woman, I'll put on white cover plates and no one will ever notice"!!!!! Guess I'll be stopping by Home Depot this morning.
As for the room, the original owner was a Mormon, and they used this for their extra pantry and food storage until 2000. I tore out the 40 particle board shelves, and its been junk storage. A couple years ago, the room flooded thru the window well you see, and got everything wet. When I got to replacing trim and base molding, I found black mold from years of leakage before we bought the house. With all the disclosure laws anymore on house sales, I figured I should have a professional biohazard remediation company come strip it, do it right, and guarantee gone. I fixed the window and outside drainage, and It's just been a storage area since.
I’m impressed, but that’s working way to hard in retirement. I’d given him a canvas bedroll W/foam

Looks as if you have earned a little more than a couple of drinks.

Have you ever noticed that women will always pick colors that require you to change the furniture, appliances, or electrical fixtures - RATHER than picking something that goes with what you already have???

BigPig, hope you're happy. I could kill the previous homeowner, used 12/2 wire, left only one inch out of the box, and plugged into back of outlets. No crimp sleeves, landed multiple wires under one screw. Three hours later it is done correctly, safely, and to code. Four switches and three outlets wasted an afternoon. Grrr!!!! And the wife is pissed 'cause I listened to someone else, instead of her (at 10:00 at night). It does look better tho.

YH: Since NEC allows up, down, or even sideways there is no correct way, I do it whatever way I have enough wire to connect them properly!! New electricians are being taught "ground plug up" in apprentice training, just in case something falls across the hot if the cord is loose in the outlet. Nice jab tho, I would have said the same to someone else myself
