Small sandblasting project

Are there any DIY options to sandblast a metal outdoor table? I hit it really good with a pressure washer but it probably made the imperfections and chipping paint worse. I’d probably have a use for some sort of setup in the future but wasn’t sure if anything for a “at home” project was worth a crap. Thanks in advance.

There are small portable units, I’ve used one before in the drive. Then shovel and screen sand to recycle. But I would only do it in the winter. The inexpensive head gear is extremely hot. It has a plastic mask built into a cloth shroud. And you need to wear a respirator under that. Blasting sand is bad for the lungs.
Try to find a powder coat service. They should have a blaster.

Rental yards should have dustless or water blasting.They use water with sand or beads and no hood is needed.Here is a commercial unit but rental yards should have smaller units.

There are kits available that connect to your pressure washer. No hood needed. Sand is pulled into the water stream and removes the rust and paint. I don't know how good they work, but the kits aren't very expensive.
Just GOOGLE "pressure washer sandblasting kit" and several will show up.

While I still think Rustybucket has the best idea, there are some of those water blasting kits on Amazon for under $50 which will make any tool collector at least curious. Having the sand in the water stream will certainly make it not nearly as messy while blasting. I used a pressure pot to clean up my ‘57, nasty dirty, hot work. Powdercoater I guess would charge you $250 to blast and coat. Just a guess based on car stuff I’ve had done. Will last a lot longer than paint.

Eye protection is a must, and a hood is a good idea for use with these. I spent some time with one, learning how to use it on every surface to achieve a number of things. It’s a very high pressure, using glass beads in large volume. The pressure is high enough that the material appears and feels dry immediately after blasting. You will absolutely get blow back in your face and it’s very uncomfortable.

I’ve got a small portable blaster that I have had for years (Campbell Hausfeld). I prefer to use coal slag vs. sand. For blasting medium sized items outdoors, a plastic kiddie pool is a good way to capture a lot of the blast media for re-use.
