I know a lot of old country farmers that just pump the gearbox full of grease and call it a lifetime.
If the seals go South, the grease doesn't run out.
A good tacky bearing grease is what they use.
They do it in their bushogs and post augers because they work them for a living and down time costs money.
that's all my dad ever did, pull the plug, pump in grease, replace plug.
After I bought my Kubota (2009) that had a 7' shredder, I sold my dad's old Ford 951 diesel with 6' shredder that was likely bought new in the early 1980s. that had never been changed, probably close to 30 years and hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of heavy use.
