Shed foundation

Shed foundation - 11/12/20 02:12 AM

Am gonna build a small (8' x 10') shed for storing lawn equipment and garage stuff (nothing heavy). Was gonna frame up the base with pressure treated 2x6's, lay down 2-3" of gravel over the entire area (currently grass), and either set the base on pyramid shaped concrete deck blocks or skids. What is best or preferred to use, blocks or skids?

Based on my experiences, I would use blocks.
Easy to level
Easier to relevel later
Termites and decay
Better ventilation under floor with extend life of floor.

Yessir, that's what I'm thinking also.

I have a 12x24 on the blocks and it has worked out great.

I have an 8x10' on skids that sit on concrete blocks. Makes it easier for me to move if I ever need to move it with the tractor.

That might be a winning combination.

Lay down heavy plastic for a barrier and use 3/4" or 1" exterior grade plywood for the floor.

Mine is on concrete blocks, but I like the skids on concrete blocks better.

The one I built is 8ft x 8ft.
I went with 8" x 16" x 4" blocks and completely lined the perimeter with them, and another in the middle at each joist. This built it up off the ground a bit for weed eating and moisture separation, it also gave a barrier to keep critters from digging under it. Floor deck and joist are all treated.

put the perimeter on 4 blocks but build the skids into the frame, easier to level, more solid since the edge will be supported and if you ever need to move just jack it up and remove blocks to skid.
