Rotisserie project (2)

Rotisserie project (2) - 03/31/20 01:41 AM

Decided to start the portable rotisserie project that I have been putting off for a few years. I purchased the 7' 1.25" spit and motor from a TFFer several years ago. I have a rotisserie that we use for smaller cuts of pork, whole turkeys, and chickens. This one is for hogs and/or lamb.

My oldest son does what he can when he can. I'm walking him through the process hoping he understands the logic and hes helping decide on the next steps.

The idea is to put this on a heavy affordable A frame.

Setting it up, talking measurements, and checking the RMPs. RPM was .75. Thats when I decided to order a smaller sprocket. That is an 80 tooth #50 size sprocket. Pretty big. Too big.

The motor is a 70's model .5 HP Reliance.

My son took a wire wheel to the spit. Not bad. Its actually very clean in person.

New sprocket installed.

Frame came out great. Pillow blocks delivered. Nothing is buttoned up. 1.5 RMP. I would like 2 but I am comfortable with 1.5. The next step is to cut and attached the frame that the motor will rest on.

Here is the motor footprint. Hope to get it cut, welded, and buttoned down before the weekend.

I love Rotisserie chicken! Never tried something bigger like a lamb or hog, I'm sure it's going to be great. I wonder if gyros meat would taste good on a bbq Rotisserie? How could it not be good I guess, probably just smokier than usual.

Frame is almost done. Bolts holes are drilled and motor is on.

Went with Cletus pins for the pillow blocks. Wanted a way to detach them from the frame easily.

looks good up you may want a heat shield between the fire area and the lower drive components to protect the electrics
