3000 ft poly pipe run

Ill be using poly pipe. There is a small chance I will make it permanent with PVC. I was going to run 3/4 inch then end with a faucet connection. But after reading a few comments by others, I wont' have the pressure. This is a temporary job. The diameter pipe I am going to tap into is 3/4". This is going to be used to water newly planted trees for 4-5 years. How would you guys make this run? What connections? What size pipe to start off with and end with? Check valves? Boosters?

anyway to put in a pressure tank along that run? Yeah, I would be concerned with the pressure drop over that distance but if you are using dribbler type taps at the trees, might not need much pressure and just run for longer periods of time.

I would look at 11/2" 200 class gasketed PVC. This will go together quicker, just be sure to use thrust blocks at any elbows you may have along the way. 3000' is a long way....as discussed, I would like to know what the starting pressure is on that 3/4" line, and what the elevation change is start to finish. You can get elevation numbers from an iphone. A check valve near the 3/4" line wouldn't hurt...a booster pump would not help in this instance unless you put it at the very end, and you still had enough volume to run it.

Sorry fellows. My questimation was waaaaaaaaaaaaay off. Its only 560 ft. So with the new numbers does this change things that much? It still down hill.

The larger the pipe, the less the friction loss.

If this is going to be on a timer, make sure you put the shutoff valve at the source not at the far end. Moving water has a lot of force behind it and can break your valves and pipe. Google 'water hammer effect" for more info.

According to my pipe book In .750" Poly at at 9 GPM at that distance you will be a little over 40 PSI of pressure loss. At 5 GPM, the pressure loss will be about 13 PSI. Knowing how much rise or drop in elevation can be calculated as well. You could water trees with that if you used some drip or bubble type emitters, but the question would be how many do you want to water at a time. How much elevation do you lose going down hill?

we have almost a mile of poly pipe from a well to our camp... If you are needing to put sections together use the galvanized connectors with clamps... we started with the plastic ones and over the year had cracking from heat and cold...Although the pump is pressure we start with 1.50 inch and halfway go to 1 inch then 3/4 the last quarter...has great pressure...

Ran a line to house and used 1 1/4" black poly, 700 feet. It's okay but wished I would have run 2". I used KC nipples and hose clamps to tie together. I think I have a roll of 1 1/4" and some 3/4" left if you're around close,,,, Free.
