Making an outdoor fridge pretty?

Making an outdoor fridge pretty? - 07/16/19 03:07 PM

I've been wanting to get my beer fridge out of the garage for a while now and put it on the back porch, but the wife says it'll look trashy being in a neighborhood. confused2

She says if I can make it look nice, I can put it back there. She found some chest style deep freezes on Pinterest with some barn wood attached to it that she liked, but I'm wondering how to attach it. Think I'll have to Gorilla glue it or can I just run some screws into it? Fridge in question, is just a regular white fridge with the fridge door on bottom and freezer up top.

Any other ideas on how to make it "visually appealing to the eye"?

You could put pictures of me all over it.

Seems like it may be easier/better looking to build a "cabinet" around it. Would have to open a door to get to the fridge door, but it may look better than wood glued all over a fridge.

It already has a bunch of old racing stickers and number plate decals on it from back in my racing days. Any free sticker I got, went on that fridge or on the underside of the lid in my tool box.

I was initially thinking of building a cabinet, and still may, but yellow jackets are bad around our parts. Maybe I can just stick some of those no pest strips in there.

As for the decoupage, if done right, that actually looks pretty cool. A good friend of my sister, her parents built a new house back when I was in high school. They requested any and everyone to keep any candy bar wrappers they could. They had this little "bookie" closet that had a secret door behind a clothes rack that opened up to another room. They plastered candy wrappers all over the walls and surprisingly, it looked great.

I would not add any covering directly to cabinet. Or at least be cautious.

Some ref have refrigerant coils in exterior walls. They all have wiring embedded in insulation. If the is no air gap around cabinet, the sides will sweat just enough to grow some nasty mold.

I would hide with a rustic free standing closet type thing. Maybe cedar fencing with 1/2 inch gaps between slats or some kind or lattice. Something to allow ventilation. Camo paint the doors.

Paint it to look like a soft drink vending machine. Look at images of Coke, 7up and other branded vending machines for ideas. Look for the Corona vending machine, maybe paint it to look like a giant retro beer box.

That is chalkboard paint. It works. I used it in my cave. Great idea. Chalk and magnets both work. Lay out some colored chalks and wait for the artwork.

Some great ideas yall! I appreciate it and will pitch these ideas to the boss. I have some camo vinyl wrap I mentioned to her about wrapping it and that was a big fat NO, even though it was essentially free.

I'm leaning towards building some sort of free standing cabinet that it sits in, unless she lets me do the chalkboard paint. We have two young boys so I may be able to convince her that it could be their "chalkboard".
