Tree clearing

Anyone use a root bucket or other attachment for a tractor to clear mesquite and cedar? Too much stress for a front end loader? Only experience I have is doing it the hard way and I'm too old for that!

Thinking about something like this.

Never used one of those....used a tractor and chain to pull them up....and a bobcat with a shear to chop them off at ground level....I'd like to know how that works and how large a tractor you would need.

Cedars won't be so hard, it's the mesquite that I want to rip out the roots below the knot. Tried the chain on a few 2" to 3" mesquite today and broke them off above the knot.

If you can get your hands on a small excavator with a grubbur attachment you'll be in business.

I use one of these then follow up with remedy on the stump. I use it on a 50hp TYM. It weighs 920 lbs.

That grubber will get the job done! Many videos online of them working. Cedars are easy enough to push with a tractor FEL if you have the HP, but I know the grubber is used on skid steers a lot too.

I tried a mini excavator 2 years ago, waste of time on the large oaks I was trying to remove, went back to the rental yard and rented a Kubota SVL 75 and that dude took out some 24" oaks

Have a 773G Turbo Bobcat and a 5740 60 Horse Kubota Tractor and a 12" Treeshear that will fit both. Shear stumps at ground level and they will still come up a little and hard of your cattle's feet, even if you spray stumps, if you are going that way with livestock. That thing (grubber) probably be hard on the loader and you, on the small tractors. A small dozer works better. Got a D31P Komatsu 6 way blade, 70 horse that will be available for sale soon. Cheap.

I'm with Glens, I wouldn't shear a stump again for any reason if I could avoid it. I'd rather remove it and be done with it, rather than wait 10 years for it to rot. I have cut them at the ground and regretted it when my objective for the area changed, then I ended up renting a stump grinder for 3 days

Talked with a guy that had done this all his life and he recommended I go with this instead if I was going to use a tractor. Said trying to use the FEL would only wear it out.

Got my hands on a used cutting edge off a road grader, it still has one unused edge. Going to see if I can build something like the root grub above.

have a grubber like the one above I use behind a JD 6320 and had to add a rack so I could add about 500lbs. tractor weights to it. Works good when the ground has some moisture in it.

That's a big heavy tractor, makes me wonder if mine can get it done pulling one of those. (62HP approx 5,300#s)

that's the kind of grubber I was talking about.

These grubbers work pretty good in a looser soil on 2" and smaller mesquites. I believe if I was building one for a 60 HP tractor I would keep it narrow and cut or grind the front of side plates to an angle to help cut the side roots off.

Then you use one of these with a 1/2 gallon of diesel and a match.

I just had an old house torn down and 10 fairly large hackberry trees removed. The guy who did it for me used one of these for both task. Pushed the trees over and then pulled them out of the ground, stump, roots and all.

I think the trees would fear one of those, that would make short work of it.
