Clay County lease - 04/30/22 03:07 AM

Anybody here hunt Clay County? I've seen some pics of some pretty good deer. They seem much better than Navarro, How about Turkey and ducks? Anybody have any experience in Clay that they'd share?

Probably better all the way around

Well, I know it's better than Navarro for Turkey, because there's no Turkey season in Navarro...which is funny, because our place is crawling with Turkey.

Buddy hunts 200 acres in Clay; nice deer annually, ample hogs and some turkey.

Depends where in Clay. Where is it and how many acres? No shortage of hogs and I took my biggest there, little over 300. If you have a wheat field and no pressure around it the deer are thick. Buddies place was about 11,000 acres with half north of 82 and half south of it just west of Ringgold. They shot nice deer but it ebbs and flows as density isn't high with lots of wide open areas in places. If you are up north by the river with wheat it's going to be great.

I hunt next door in Montague.

I'm far SW corner of the county. Mostly flat or rolling mesquite pasture with plenty of water.

SW corner is a good area.

You will or should have ducks if you have some good ponds.

3 or 4 tanks over an acre, 2 tanks over 2 or 3 acres, and multiple smaller tanks.

This should suit your needs. You may even get a nice buck off of that place.
