This heat sucks!

This heat sucks! - 12/29/21 01:47 PM

We haven't seen hardly anything on camera during the daytime for the last week. But, this is the time that we had set aside to hunt. From now to the end of season. I got here early to get settled in, and haven't seen a damn thing. It's muggy and sticky. Ugh.

Yep, it's been a difficult year. Hot afternoons the deer start moving about 6pm. Foggy mornings for the last two weeks. We've only had one freeze so far and it didn't do much to the food sources... it's been tough.

80 degrees and very dry and we're almost into January. Cold front coming into CenTex on Saturday, but it's a dry front. I can only imagine what the grasshopper population is going to be this spring and summer! I'm still seeing them; not as many as last summer/fall, but still a whole lot of them. They'll wreak havoc on our gardens this spring.

I can remember hunting all day in a tripod when it was in the upper 90's. I was wearing a short sleeve camo T-shirt on Jan 1st back in the early 80's that day in LaSalle County. I got a sunburn and the deer moved all day long.
We are going to get a really good front this weekend up the Hill Country. We are supposed to get morning lows down in the lower 20's for 2 days with pretty good winds on top of it.

80 here as well and deer movement is slow. Now is time u see some chasing and haven’t seen any. They still doing their thing I’m sure but night mostly if I had to guess. Just started seeing a few dead on the road which is a good indicator. Be Monday before cold here and they will probably kick in gear but of course I gotta go back to work. Forecast til then is thunderstorms and rain everyday

I ran into the same issue on my Mills County lease. It was usually warm, sometimes in the 80's. I saw very few deer. Then when I hunted Dec 20/21, I hit some cold weather. Much better. I also had to hunt when I could, and was not able to plan all of my trips around the weather. Kind of a strange season.

It'll be the first time this season that I'll see the need to crawl into my ground blind and crank up the heater.

There will no doubt be a lot of hay and firewood moved around this weekend.

I am half way there and this week is normally one of my mostest favorite hunting times. I am three bucks and a doe into it and still need three does and at least one more buck. Could be even more bucks, if the other hunters don't get busy. I gots them and they have been very busy shooting.

I will wait until Saturday. Will get down there for dinner with what should be a full camp and will hunt that cold front into next week. Gonna be awesome.

Yep, cold weather coming Sunday, just in time for the end of the regular season. If I can't get it done then, I will have to switch to the smoke pole. I still need 1-2 more deer.
