Age, score

This guy's been seen around our place, but just started showing up on my cameras. I'm not really good at aging, and this guy has me stumped he looks younger to me, but I'm having a hard time believing that a younger buck would develop horns like this in Navarro County.

He is not a young buck, but a really rutted down older buck.

Any guesses on age/score? I've got two more photos of him. I'm just waiting on the HD versions before posting them.

4.5+ doesn't seem crazy old but could be really old and done since he doesn't have a lot of mass. His buddies kicked him out of their party.

Hard to tell much for age but first glance I said he was post mature. The last daylight pic of him also show his age even better. He has a lot of tarsal staining and scalding down his hind legs. He also has knobby front knees. Both of those are flags for mature or post mature bucks. The thing that makes it difficult is he so thin bodied and run down from the rut....both make it hard to age a buck. The staining and knobby knees are usually spot on. Late season mature bucks will have both...a really dominant buck will have more scalding. The knobby knees could be a result of past fighting injuries. He may be a middle-aged buck, but I would shoot him as a post mature buck for age. Score wise he looks to be around 120 give or take a little. End of the season and he is already at the protein feeder is a something I like to see. He could recover and do much better next year or tank with age. In the end he is a nice 8pt right now.

Im with STX, his rear is very regressive looking compared to his front.

End of the day wether 4.5 or 7.5 he is a medium framed 8pt

Thanks for the help on age and score. Regardless of score, being post mature makes me want to put him in my shopping cart for New Year's week. Our hunting pressure has increased significantly in our area. We've got a number of good looking young bucks that we passed on over the last 2 or 3 years that we never saw again. My hesitancy to let him walk is that he is probably on my neighbor's shopping list already.

4yo imo. Some pics say 3, some say 4 and that might not be accurate. There is no way to tell exactly except by killing him.

Well, I hunted for him all the way through Yesterday evening. He had gone mostly nocturnal with almost zero daytime pictures. I was sitting with my son and we saw him on Jan 2nd. I asked my son if he wanted to take him, to which he replied, "Uh, YEA!" He got behind the rifle, and I instructed him to be patient and wait until the buck turned broadside. About that same time, the Buck's 6th sense kicked in and he turned and bolted for no apparent reason. I guess that's why old bucks get old.
Last night, on the last hunt of the year, 4 bucks came in with about 15 mins of light left. One of those bucks was a medium sized 8 point that is often on camera at the same time as my target buck, so I was getting excited. I was already on the rifle (muzzleloader), ready and waiting when a 152 lb boat came in and ran the deer off. I know he was 152 lbs, because I promptly gave him a dirt nap and weighed him.
This morning, my target buck showed up on camera in bright daylight. Figures. I guess we'll get to see if he declines or makes a jump next year!

I think this is a mature to post mature deer as well that is really rut down.
I'd give better odds of him being 6.5 than I would 5.5 but with him this run down he certainly could be younger. Be interesting to see what he does once he starts putting weight back on and how he looks then
Somewhere in the 120-125 range I'd think.
