Youth Weekend

Youth Weekend - 10/31/21 01:21 AM

Had a lot of deer come in but no big ones. Dax popped a pig at 150 right in the ear. Shot didn’t bother the deer, 7 does and 5, 2 year old bucks ran about a 100 yards and came right back to the back porch feeder. A coyote came in to get a drink about 5pm and I had to hold Dax off. He’s been bloodthirsty all year. I’m proud to say when we were watching all of these deer he said this isn’t near as fun as watching bird dogs and not near as much action. Wish I was 13 again![Linked Image]

Nice cutters! Big old hairy hog! Way to go Dax! I’m with Dax. I’d have thrown some lead at the coyote. They never get a pass from me.

Good for Dax and great handling of the rifle with the open bolt. Sure looks and sounds like you are raising that young man right.

No big deer this morning. We had 15 total come in. 7 does and yearlings with 8 young bucks. One was a pretty nice 125 three year old but Dax thought he could do better this year. If his little brother had been with us I guarantee he would have gotten shot, it’s nice to spend time with them individually every now and then. We did see a couple of small coveys of quail when we were filling up feeders today. It would have been nice to run Dax’s bird dog pup this morning but I decided to hold off until everyone gets a deer. My buddy that owns the place can’t hunt until the third week.

This is the first youth season I didn’t hunt with my grandkids since they were old enough to hunt.
They all had some kind of party to go to, I was sad at first, but I had a lot of work I needed to get done Saturday, and I got it done.
We don’t take but a couple of deer a year from my place in Leon county, so If nobody wants to hunt we will just give it a break this year, plus I’m starting a good sized project ( building another cow pen) and it will take a lot of my time.
But if they want to go I will take them.
I have a place in Coleman county we haven’t taken a deer off of yet ( January will be 2 years I have owned it) we let a bunch walk last year, my oldest son his boys and a friend are planning on hunting it opening weekend.
I don’t shoot deer anymore, but when I was my grandkids age others could party all they wanted to.
I would be hunting!
