Have one of the atascosa blinds on a tour. Man it is a nice blind, love everything about it except the windows, they are too big.

Lol, not yet. It's a pretty good ways from the main house and shop, so there's no electric run out there yet. He does have a small table over in the corner with a propane heater and coleman stove though.

Not for Deer but will be another dedicated Hog Stand when finished.

Not too large. 4' x 8' two man blind when done.

Base of floor will be 10' off the ground.... so after framed....the bottom of the shooting windows will be approximately 13' off the ground. That is plenty of elevation for this site.

Got the Corner Posts set a couple of days ago and what will be the framework for the floor ready to 'slide up' the posts.

[Linked Image]

Since I am working alone....I needed to come up with a way to lift the 2 x 6 frame ( wanted to first build it on the ground...nice and square). So drilled some holes in the corner posts and cut some climbing pins from 3/8" round stock. That way I could go from one end to the other. Lift one end. pin it off...then go to the other side, etc....

[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

Up she goes..........

[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

Once at the top....I leveled it off then used one through bolt and two lag bolts to secure each corner.

Re: Who has the best blind?!!! Show me what you got!!! - 10/18/21 01:58 AM

So...with the floor frame in place and captured....time to add some bracing. The 6' x 6" corner posts might have been enough....but I don't like for things to move.

So I added some 4" x 6" braces along each long side, then cross tied those.

Braces inlet to corner posts and cross ties half lapped.

Not the nicest blind but it was a fun build and we killed a ton of animals out of it, I never took a pic of it out in the field but it’s pretty obvious how it looked scattered amongst other hay bales and it would fit 3 grown adults and a cooler of beer, [Linked Image]

Right after it was “erected”. 21.5’ to floor. Poly tank 6’ diameter with windows equidistant all around. Shelf under each window to rest elbow for solid rest in ANY direction. Enter through trap door. Curtains in “back” as needed. Sits on end of a 400 yd x 800 yd wheat field that’s surrounded by thick cover.

I really like the way Flint "rolls". Creek, be careful of Free. He is luring you.

Free, the roominess of those 6 foot circle blinds will be welcomed. You can apply black outs to the Real Bark blind windows with velco strips. They'll keep you from being silhouetted. I pull them down and up as needed, always leaving my back covered.

Not much time to play with it today, but got one of the stair stringers laid out and cut. Checked for fitment...now can use it as the 'pattern' for the second one.

Hopefully get them in place tomorrow and the treads mounted so I can get up on top and deck the floor frame.

Stringers attached. Now just need to install the treads, cut in the handrail.

Get up top next and deck the floor frame so I can start framing my walls.

We have moved to these two types of blinds on our lease. The first ones are normal 4x6 blinds from Extreme Outdoors. The 2nd ones are called Pot Belly and the can be a little tricky to get in but once inside they have a ton of room.

I’ve never understood the potbelly design. I want more room at my feet and want the windows closer for shooting. If I didn’t have a straight side I would want the bottom bigger. Is it just me?

There is actually a lot of room for your feet and they have a nice ledge inside each window for shooting.

This is a high chair based on designs I found being used in Germany. It is portable, just fold it up and put in your truck. You are sitting 7 feet up in the air and animals have walked right by it with out even looking up.

That is GENIUS! Does it feel solid when you are sitting in it? Do you stake the feet so it doesn't fall to one side? I may steal this idea.

its 36 inches wide and as long as you make sure all of the legs are on solid ground it is very stable when you are up in it. You could easily stake it out if it makes you more comfortable. Might be able to replace the hex bolts at the pivot with eye bolts and stake it out.

I like the pot belly blinds. 'Pricey though, for a bolt-together kit. They're actually the closest blind manufacturer to the ranch, but I couldn't justify the cost, then the hassle.

Just when I thought there were no new ideas. Very interesting. Ill have to think about it.
It surely is heavier than a mobile tripod and Im not sure it has any advantages but Im sure its cheaper, assuming you could make it yourself. Thanks for posting.

This design came to life because some of the guys I hunt with are uncomfortable with the idea of sitting in a chair on top of a tripod, and the tripod they had looked at did not offer an integrated rifle rest. We wanted something that would be elevated and comfortable enough to sit in for long periods of time. This will be used both for deer hunting and night time pigs hunts. I designed and built this, full 3D CAD models and drawings, in pressure treated wood. It weights around 100 pounds and will cost you $100-$120. I am modifying the design to reduce the weight but I am not sure I will get more than a 10%-15% reduction from the design change. Might look at different materials or a whole new concept.
