Expensive doe!

I have two daughters 13 and 15. My oldest enjoys hunting and hunts with me each year. My youngest took her first deer when she was 8 and hasn’t hunted or taken a deer since. I ask her each year and she declines the offer. I don’t pressure her I just ask. I really wanted her to try hunting one more time to determine if she likes it or not so I changed my strategy. I asked her if she would like to make some money. She asked how and I told her I would pay her to take a deer over the holidays. She jumped at the offer.

We talked all week about the hunt. When she arrived in camp we went right to the blind. It didn’t take long. She did it and I think she enjoyed it. Mom and the dogs came down for the recovery(not much of one, she dropped her). My daughter stayed outside all evening while I cleaned and quartered the deer (she never does that). She then played games with her mom.

I think a couple things helped make this a positive experience. First she asked to hunt from a nicer blind and I encouraged her to use my suppressed 300 HAM’R. I believe both these things helped make it a pleasant experience.

Yep if it's not pleasant for them they will pass.
Don't get em cold, wet, or uncomfortable in their early hunting years. This will want them to come back.

Great times. I had a Mastiff that looked almost exactly like your brindle. I miss that dog.

Great memories... My oldest (11) loves animals and the outdoors but doesn't show any interest in hunting or shooting at this point. My youngest (7) I think is going to be the most adventurous of the two and hope to get her some practice in this next year and if all goes well able to get her first pig or deer next year.

Both dogs are Catahoulas with the same mom but different litters. They are at opposite ends of the standard! One is short and fat while the other is tall and skinny. Both are great family and hunting dogs.

I wouldn't call that an expensive doe, I would call it priceless. It is great that you found a way to get your daughter back in the deer stand with you. Congratulations to both of you.
