The rut starts as soon a as the velvet comes off pretty much. The thing is there are multiple different phases and the peak rut ain’t here

I don’t think it has started here in Limestone County. For the last several days I’ve watched bucks intently observing does, but taking no action. We must be real close.

I was driving through Waller about 11:45 Saturday morning when a buck chased a doe into 290 traffic. It didn't end well for either.

This morning, I looked out the front and there was a doe. Caught me a lil' off guard.

In a flash a highly "interested" & determined buck came out of nowhere and served as an escort.

Re: Rut has started - 11/02/20 06:40 PM

Here is a little bit of information on the estrous cycle of whitetail.

A whitetail doe of reproductive age comes into heat for a 24-36 hour period each fall. If she is not bred in that time frame, she regresses and will come back into heat 28 days later. If she isn’t bred at that time, the cycle starts again. More than 98 percent of all mature does are bred successfully each year.

Many times the second estrous cycle is when we see the “rut” activity. This is due to less does being in estrous creating the competition from bucks.

I’ve yet to see any bucks chasing does in Fannin Co. And I’ve seen many does at all times of the day and night

They are moving in large groups since that cold weather came last week

Re: Rut has started - 11/04/20 01:08 PM

It’s on for sure now in Limestone County. Super nice buck in the yard at dawn and 10 or 12 doe. All acting wild and stupid. The poor 4 point was relegated to the sidelines.
