Runnels / Coleman Cos Deer - 08/28/20 04:35 PM

Hunting new dirt this season in southern Coleman/Runnels Counties. Anyone have any reports on deer expectations (both antler quality and quantity)?

Plenty of targets, not so much on quality.

Depends on the dirt, and how much... It can be very good.

Depends on the surrounding landowners management, and the place your on. I know of a LF place in northern Coleman county that’s been under MLD management for a few years. They have had good success.

Yes, quality will depend on what's around you....definitely won't have problems with quantity

Not sure what's was going on but last year on 2 different weekends we did not see anything. First time in several years . We are in south west Colman county.

I hunt in Coleman County. Never a problem with the quantity of deer. There are some monsters there - they seem to stay away from the feeders though.

My boy got it done Saturday evening. He sent a meat missile on its way from 20yrds and let the Rage Broadhead do the rest. Very old main frame 10 with a split droptine and a huge body. Sorry for the bad pics it was warm and we were in a hurry to get him cooled down.

I hunted Runnels for 18 years. Lots of deer, we probably killed 16/20 does per season and we could never tell the difference. Probably averaged 6/8 bucks per season with the same results. It was hard to see a buck that was over 125” but the guys around Ivie, Paint Rock, and thereabouts killed much better bucks than we did.
