Re: Any velvet shedding yet ? - 08/20/20 03:51 PM

I will expect to see on before next Friday on cams here. I have every year since 2012. A lot of the ones are shedding their summer hair coats and that means the velvet will come off right after the new fall coat is in.

First hard horn on cams this year. As a matter of fact it is the same buck that was the first on trail cams last year in hard horn and at the same feeder. Within 2 days of the same day as last year.

One of my old regulars showed up tonight. First time I have seen him this year and the first one I have seen to lose his velvet. They still look red and raw. All his buddies still have theirs. Sorry the photo is not better.

Both these bucks were in full velvet just after dark last night. Sure didn't take them long to rub out.

Re: Any velvet shedding yet ? - 09/10/20 04:34 PM

This rain and cold weather with great timing will have a lot stripping the velvet off. From today forward for the next few days most will strip the velvet off in many areas.

Re: Any velvet shedding yet ? - 09/10/20 06:41 PM

Just checked trail cams and have a little under half of the bucks on cam out of velvet as of this morning. I would think by Sunday here that 75%-80% will be out of velvet.

Re: Any velvet shedding yet ? - 09/14/20 06:04 PM

Was in Foard County last weekend and I'd say 80% are hard antlered. The bigger ones should shed this week.

Re: Any velvet shedding yet ? - 09/14/20 08:39 PM

I was in Junction, TX this past weekend and *all* whitetail bucks we saw (several dozen) were hard antlered.

Re: Any velvet shedding yet ? - 09/29/20 01:23 PM

It appears that the velvet is gone from the local bucks.

Still getting new fawns, which seems odd.
