Re: Storing Your Meat. - 04/30/20 06:24 PM

when my FIL passed back in 2010, we had the lovely chore of cleaning out all his stuff. He had a chest type freezer that was probably a 8-10 deer freezer based on the above scaling system, biggest chest freezer I every recall seeing, I am 6'3" and think I could lay down in it and not touch anywhere.

Funny part of the story, it worked perfectly but some one decided to cut the electricity off to his shop where the freezer was located (plus one other chest type not quite a big) that were both stuffed full ... yeah, you guessed it, I found that the power was shut off by opening the lid sick barf ... turned power back on to re-freeze everything to hopefully kill some of the stench, didn't work, just one big glob of frozen goo from anything to everything he had caught or killed for a long while. Had to haul off to the dump after purging freon.

Praise the Lord for the invention of the vacuum sealer. Two things with the attached photo. The fish, boudain and jerky are in a separate freezer. I have no idea as to where that there Blue Bell came from.

We have a chest freezer at the ranch, no one knows what is in the bottom layers, haven't dug that deep in many years.

Chest freezers a great until you have to dig around to get the oldest meat. A friend told me his dad used the plastic egg/milk crates and could fit 8 of them in his freezer. Made it a lot easier to get "first in, first out" meat.
