Big Doe

Big Doe - 01/21/20 03:55 AM

I don't shoot a lot of deer these days and don't make a big deal of posting about them when I do but I shot a doe this past weekend that was worthy. When I walked up to her, I immediately looked to see if it was a buck that dropped antlers early. Didn't see that so lifted a back leg to make sure I saw confirmation. For sure a doe. Low fence deer. 115 yards with a 100 grain Hornady Whitetail. Can't remember a doe I've ever shot with 100 grain round from that gun that didn't give me a complete pass-through shot when hit in the breadbasket. Biggest I've seen shot on this ranch was @ 105i-110sh. We had a monster acorn crop as many have experienced this year and the fat ranged from 1/2"-3/4" thick all over this deer. I pulled some fat balls the size of racquet balls from inside the cavity walls that I've never seen before. She hit the scales @ 135 pounds.

I had the biggest deer so far on my place at 130# this year. She wasn’t the biggest I had seen out there either. Doe were definitely healthy this year due to the acorn crop!

I also shot the biggest buck so far on my place at 180# just prior to the rut.

These “records” have only been tracked for two years tho, so ymmv.

135 is a good doe!

Wow! That is a big girl!

The biggest doe I've seen in person weighed 112 pounds field dressed. Little brother killed it in Oklahoma a few years back.

Sounds like a big girl to me. We are not in acorn country, our deer haven't been as fat this year.

yep, sounds like a big one! I killed a doe a few weeks ago on our east TX place and live weight was 146 lbs (MLD3, we weigh before field dressing, and I forgot to weigh after), loaded with huge chunks of fat.
