Whitetail between Toyah and Kent.

Driving home from work on 20, headed west, I saw a dead whitetail on the side of the interstate. I think that’s Reeves County. I had no idea they were in that area. I’ve spent a lot of time around Toyah, and I’ve only seen mule deer. Where I saw the whitetail, that sure doesn’t look like whitetail country. Doesn’t look like the kind of country any critter could survive in. I was surprised and thought it was interesting. Can anyone enlighten me on the specifics of whitetails in that area?
