Watched this guy from about 8:15-9:00

He was chasing the girls around in between feedings.

We passed on him, hoping he will show up again next season

We are pretty strict on only shooting mature animals unless it’s a cull type we don’t want to feed for another year.

The kids understand that shooting a immature trophy is only shortchanging themselves, they show pretty good patience when it comes to laying off the trigger. If they do get an itchy finger like we all do, we shoot a few does or I take them to a place with a lot of hogs

Thanks! He missed the biggest buck I’ve seen on this place in 8 years at daylight this morning. 150” deer. I saw the buck fever kicking in. I told him he wasn’t going anywhere and to take his time. G.W. Said he was ready and I could tell he was not but said go ahead and shoot him when he picks his head up. He clean missed an inch over his neck. He was pretty upset. This little doe walked up after we’d run the Brittany an hour bird hunting. He neck shot her off the back porch at 125 with his 22 Hornet. He said if he had killed the little doe before he saw the giant he’d have some horns to put on the wall. Wish I could still get that excited over killing a deer. He had a great day.

Good deal

My daughter started late last year.

We have 1 doe and 1 pig under our belt

I’m just trying to get her something we can at least Euro Mount.

I’m not that strict. This morning when the boy missed the giant which was a 4 year old deer there was a 6 year old 120” buck down there that had 30 lbs on the big horned boy. Which one would you have shot?

Back in the day my grandfather would have shot the bigger bodied deer for the meat and tried to swap someone for a couple of small does.

Thank you for teaching the kids to harvest mature trophies, does or culls. Nothing wrong with a kid killing any deer for their first, but I applaud your restraint.

Re: Youth weekend - 10/30/19 05:30 AM

Congrats to all. Only saw 3 doe and they were in the feed pen when we walked up! Acorns everywhere. Had pigs at 15 yards show up but they caught on to us opening the window that has never been opened in 10 years!! Eating acorns of course. Had a shooter at my best blind we leave for the opener.
