Anyone hunt around Haskell

Anyone hunt around Haskell - 02/28/19 01:10 AM

I’m about to get a lease out that way and wondering how the deer hunting is. I know the bird hunting will be awsome with sand hill cranes but what about deer

Near the Salt Double Fork of Brazos can be excellent.

Whereabouts are you going to lease? I'm part of a group on 5300 acres just east of Haskell. I've been there 4 years now, previously hunted South Texas. Our group manages the ranch well, but there aren't just a ton of good bucks. This year we only took a few bucks, one being a trophy that shouldn't have been shot until at least next year. The deer are very skittish and many seem to disappear from camera in October. For the money, it's a good area, but I wouldn't have high expectations for multiple trophy deer shot each year. PM me for more info.

That's right. Closer to the river the better.

We hunt 8 miles east of Haskell. Our north line is Hwy. 380. 9000 Acres and it was my first year. I had a 170" +- on my camera one night only. Some good deer around, last year was just a weird year. Most of our big deer come from the Lake Stamford area.

One of my neighbors in Erath owns a limestone quarry near Leuders. He hunts around there some. He's seen some good deer. Only had the place a year or so. Good luck

I hunt up in the NW corner of Haskell County near Obrien. We are about a mile from the river and have good numbers. Most bucks killed this year dressed out at 170 but we feed protein year round. I've had some studs on camera but never connected with them, nocturnal and smarter than me. Quail sucked this year but dove were great. Tons of hogs and yotes to keep you busy. Our land owner never gets the wheat planted in time for general season so we miss out on that attractant. I've hunted Haskell County now for about 10 years and love the amount of game.

We're on Millers Creek and it is okay for deer. Freaking hogs are everywhere though.

it's a good deer county, lots of deer , lots of grazing for them

I shot my biggest buck there in 2011, a 10 pt

Lots of hogs, big boars...… wheat fields = big deer , big hogs

saw a 12 pt with black antler under my 20 ft blind
ran across the pasture, jumped the fence to go beat up
some bucks 500 yards away. They were courting a group of 10 does

go for it

I hunted there (N. of 380 on 266) several years ago. Our deer numbers were pretty low but hogs/turkeys were plentiful. After a few seasons they started hog hunting with helicopters in the area and the next season we didn't see any hogs or deer. That was it for me. Hope you have better luck than I did.

We hunt near Lake Stamford. Been on the same place for 5-6 years? More hogs than you could ever want. Lots of waterfowl and migratory birds. Also tons of predators and small game. There are also some deer. Most of the good ones are nocturnal but out of the ten hunters there is usually one good buck shot each season (shot my biggest deer ever - 12 point out there) and one or two culls as well as some doe. I seem to see the least amount of deer at my stand for some reason, but i have never sat a weekend and seen nothing.

We hunt Just West of Rule on the the Double Mnt Fork of the Brazos and the deer hunting has gotten better and better in the last 8 years. People around the area manage it really well as far as not shooting a bunch of young bucks. We have killed several deer over 145+ and a couple that run upper 160's. We have a neighbor that has shown us multiple cameras of 170'' deer, so they are there. Our rut seems to come Dec 3-11th every year. So don't lose hope after thanksgiving.

Happy Hunting
