Deer Lick - 02/05/19 11:05 PM

Saw this on youtube and tried it. It really worked!!!! Seemed to bring in more does than Bucks, but Bucks followed the does into the area.

3 tubs of Non-iodonized salt (26 oz each)
3 boxes baking soda (8oz each)
2 tubs of kool-aid, with sugar, cherry or wild apple (makes 8 qt size)
1 box jello.....cherry.

Adds up to Under $15

Did you just leave it as a dry mix and dump it on the ground?

Re: Deer Lick - 07/22/19 03:20 PM

Just dumped it dry on the ground. Deer still come to the spot it was at from last season. I just put more down...

Re: Deer Lick - 07/24/19 05:36 PM

If you look at the commercial deer licks, one of the active ingredients is sodium bicarbonate....AKA Baking Soda.

Re: Deer Lick - 07/25/19 01:33 AM

We have used a similar mix. We just dumped it out on soft ground, and then raked the area with a garden rake. Never really had a recipe, just a few boxes of baking soda, table salt and handful of cherry Kool Aid packs.

Re: Deer Lick - 07/25/19 02:59 PM

I wonder if that mixture attracts hogs as well???

Re: Deer Lick - 08/06/19 02:00 PM

I put this together and set it out about two weeks ago.

Went to check it this last weekend and deer are hitting it. I have a trail cam setup now and will head back out Satruday to see what I'm getting. That looks like a doe track which is fine but would love to see a buck or two.

Re: Deer Lick - 08/09/19 07:56 PM

Ok. So checked the cameras yesterday. I have doe, fawns, and turkey. No bucks on camera but that could be my fault. I overthought my camera location and picked a crappy spot. I moved it yesterday so hopefully in a week or so I'll have better pics.

Re: Deer Lick - 09/19/19 08:48 PM

Ok I put this in my feed pin. Unfortunately, I put it too close to my camera so I didnt get pics. Err. However, there is a hole in the ground where I placed it. So they are tearing it up at my place. I placed another pile where I can get picks of them eating it. I'll pull the picks next week when I go for bow open.
