Son's First Deer! - 01/21/19 12:33 PM
Decided to head down to the ranch Saturday around noon with the family and see we could get a doe or spike to add to the freezer.
My 7 yr old who really hasn't been all too interested in shooting anything yet had told me Friday morning he wanted to shoot a deer. Already had the rifle ready to go. Just a simple suprressed 300 Blackout upper w/Vortex red dot and front sight shooting 125gr SSTs. We practiced out the house that evening on how to line up the dot and front post and to slowly pull the trigger, not jerk it. Afterwards we go over many images on the computer of deer and where to shoot. Bingo, hes ready to go.
In the blind this jacked up buck walks in. He's all kinda broken and his left G2 is only 3 inches long compared to the 6 inches on his right. Ask my son if he wants him and a big smiled comes to his face. Yup! So as cool as a cucumber he sits in my lap and lines up the deer. I repeatedly ask if he's on him but keep getting mixed feedback. Finally after what seems like 5 minutes he tells me he's on him. I remove the safety and tell him to pull the trigger.
Perfect 65 yard double lung shot! Couldn't believe it. Deer piled up 40yds from the feeder! Best part is the whole family was there to enjoy this moment! Proud dad for sure!
