SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A Missouri poacher has been ordered to repeatedly watch the movie "Bambi" as part of his sentence for illegally killing hundreds of deer.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that David Berry Jr. was ordered to watch the Disney classic at least once a month during his year-long jail sentence. Conservation agents are calling the case one of the largest deer poaching cases in state history.

Prosecutors say the deer were killed for their heads, with their bodies left to rot.

Berry was convicted in southwest Missouri's Lawrence County of illegally taking wildlife. Three relatives and another man also were caught in connection to the poaching case. They've paid $51,000 in fines and court costs.

Berry also was sentenced to 120 days in jail in nearby Barton County for a firearms probation violation.

I think more jail time was needed in this case. Its class acts like this that give all hunters a bad name.

Glad to see that (at lease two of them) have a life time ban on their license. Unfortunately, I don't think it will matter. I'm willing to bet at least one of them will be caught in the next few years hunting without a license.

Agreed. No way hundreds of deer they shot were all trophies. They didn’t even take all the backstraps, which would’ve also been wrong, if they’d just left the rest of the meat. Absurd and gross actions.

The judge made his crime seem like a joke. Sounds like very serious case of poaching that is getting made light of. Yes he was punished in other ways as well but all the headlines people are reading say "Poacher sentenced to watch Bambi" Makes it sound like poaching isn't a serious offense.

Like the jail folks will be required by law to make him watch Bambi once a month...and they will actually do it?

Having him watch a Bambi film is just a joke.
He should have him doing some type of community service, like working in a meat packing house or processing plant, or cleaning animal cages.

Yep. Pretty pathetic.

Agree and adds to much credence to the banner the antis place on that movie, hell, we have the movie still to this day in our kids collection, just stupid to consider a "cartoon" as any form of retribution. Make the ah watch the "view" every day for a year, then we may get somewhere lol
