Muzzleloader Elk

Muzzleloader Elk - 10/11/18 08:13 PM

Earlier this week I went on a muzzleloader hunt with an outfitter Steve Brugman of Brugman Outfitting Service. He advertises here but I had a hard time finding a review so I thought I would post one.

He provided all that he said he would over the phone. I had a nice place to stay, a guide who knew the area and wasn't afraid to get out there in hunt. We hunted unit 36 which is a physically demanding unit. You need to be in decent shape if you want to have the best opportunity at harvesting an animal. Steve is a nice guy and so are his guides. If you have any questions about my experience feel free to contact me.

The icing on the cake was harvesting a bull. I felt like me and my guide were rewarded for the hard work we put in hunting this public land.
There were three other hunters in camp and they all harvested a bull also.

Very nice. I'm jealous of that elk meat. It's tough to beat.

Congrats. Any elk is a good one, and bow and muzzy are that much harder.

Can't beat a hunt like that! Got mine back in 2001 in Unit 15, quite a thrill!

I went to High School with Steve in Carlsbad. He seems to be doing quite well in the NM hunting/guiding scene. Good for him. Nice bulls.

Cool, I booked a mule deer hunt with him in unit 33 for the first week of November.

Should be a good hunt. Unit 33 is not known for deer density, but those sand hill bucks can get really wide. I have seen some monsters in that area.
