I am about 50 miles Southwest of there. Things are looking really good on my place...number wise and antler size. The 13" AR is really helping.

If it got any better we wouldn't know what to do.
With the green up from the recent rains they aren't as interested in protein or corn.

On the Jack/Montague border and we've got a lot of deer hitting the feeders regularly. Mostly does, bachelor groups of young basket racks, and 2 decent bucks stop in every other day.

I'm in Young Co. near Eliasville. So far it's looking pretty promising, so we'll see if they're still hanging around come Saturday smile

What are the 4x4's in the ground for?

Couldn't get in my place there in Murray DQ, 4" of rain at the gate. Got cameras going but can't get to them for another week.

I see chain reinforcements running to the feeder near the tops of them. Interesting.

The 4x4's were an experiment last year. In the past I've had hogs burrow under my fencing and one time even had a cow jump over the fence (caught her on camera). The result was my feeder being torn apart. After that I had an idea to suspend the feeder from the posts which are set in 2 ft of concrete.

The idea actually worked very well. With no legs to climb up, raccoons couldn't get to the feeder. When hogs got into my pen they could do no damage. However, there was one drawback to my plan. The more corn I put in the feeder the heavier it got. The weight would cause the feeder to lose its circular shape, thus making it difficult or impossible to close the lid. In other words, the feeder barrel would become oval while the lid remained circular.

This summer I wanted to fill the feeder all the way up so it would last through the summer, so I added the feeder legs back on so the feeder barrel would retain it's circular shape. It didn't take long for the coons to climb the legs and eat through my solar charger wires.

With archery season upon us, it's too late to mess with it now. Next season I will go back to the drawing board and see how I can prevent the feeder barrel from collapsing under weight.

I bought one of these. They do not get destroyed if something gets into the pen.

Looks like those would do the trick, though a wee bit on the pricey side.

We are 18 miles north of Jacksboro. Lots of doe and young bucks hitting the feeders. And more hogs than we’ve ever seen. We got 5” of rain Friday and Saturday. Pasture is in great shape, and the food plots are starting to grow. Gonna be a great season, but I expect it to be slow until at least thanksgiving.

Wow, my part of Young county, SW is just the opposite. Hot from mid-Oct. until Thanksgiving then slow until secondary rut in mid-Dec.

Hunting near Eliasville as well, been feeding protein and maintaining mineral sites consistently since early spring. Been seeing lots of good prospects on camera that show consistantly....more than last year. Im sure they'll ghost on me here shortly though.

Just put my game cam out so not sure what is hitting the feeder, lots of tracks.
We got 5 1/2" of rain. Will post pics when I get some.
Good luck to ya DQ and all up
