youth weekend - 10/29/17 09:28 PM
I took my daughter for her first deer this weekend. I told her that she could shoot anything on the ranch she wanted. I told her I wanted it to be her decision and I just wanted it to be a special experience for her and I. I told her I wanted her to take a buck and we could doe hunt later. She has grown up with me hunting and knows our property as well as all of the amazing deer we have. She asked me if she could shoot an older management deer. I asked again if we were hunting for a trophy and she told me that a mature management buck was a trophy. I am not sure I have ever been so proud of her. With the great weather we saw a ton of deer. ranging in size and age. each time I would tell her the size and age. each time she passed on the deer. This morning we had a chance at a great 8 management buck and it just didnt work out. Still I could not have been so proud of her and her maturity. As a father and a hunter I am so happy with the child becoming a young adult. As she snuggled with me in the blind she said this feels like old times. Almost made an old man cry.
Teach them young. teach them the right way. they are listening to us.
