The Ultimate Cull Buck! - 10/07/17 03:26 PM

I've got a cull buck y'all have got to see! His back right leg is gone and he's on my hit list. Can I text some one the pics and you post them for me? Thanks!

If I get a shot at him I think I'm gonna skull mount him.

Can you tell if the leg was a birth defect or was it lost later in life?

Dude that's an awesome buck! Definitely would mount that one on the wall!

Redman, I really can't tell what happened to his leg. I have hundreds of pics of him, day and night.

All the other deer make fun of poor Rudolph.

roflmao

He's even having trouble with the velvet. Can't find a sapling that wide.

Don’t know that I could shoot him. Hats off to him on his survival skills. I would like to see him year after year to see how his rack changes due to the injury. On 2nd thought, absolutely no way I would kill him. Just my own personal opinion

Cool looking buck, I would let him walk

I’m like a couple of others on here, I would be too curious to see what he does year after year to shoot him. Don’t think you have to worry about “Ol’ Peggy” breeding. I don’t think he could stay on for the ride. 😆

338ultra,I agree totally about breeding. I also thought about him trying to jump a fence. No bueno with either one.

Hopefully I'll get a chance at him. My uncle said he was hanging around the feeder again all weekend.

in the running for widest spread. up

Re: The Ultimate Cull Buck! - 10/09/17 03:44 PM

Even though his antler configuration fits cull criteria, it's probably not genetic but a response to injury. He is cool. Out of admiration for his tenacity to survive, I would probably just tip my hat and let Bevo walk.

Re: The Ultimate Cull Buck! - 10/09/17 04:07 PM

I like being able to see how they change from year to year, especially with a buck as recognizable as this one. I give him credit for making it this far and would rather kill a doe in his place just to see what he looks like next year.

Re: The Ultimate Cull Buck! - 10/09/17 11:35 PM

That is a goofy looking sucker.
Each year it seems that we get some dorky looking deer like that. It is always a challenge for the kids to see who can get to him first.

What a freak. I would have to see what he looks like next year personally just cause it's so unique

whoa man thats a strange on there!

Re: The Ultimate Cull Buck! - 10/10/17 12:52 PM

Ugly and interesting at the same time.
I would assume he would have trouble making it to next yr (unless you have seen him over several yrs).
AKA harvest him this yr!

I also wonder if he has any siblings/cousins that are as interesting as him.

This^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^, but wouldn't fault you for wanting to kill him.

Re: The Ultimate Cull Buck! - 10/10/17 02:44 PM

Looks like he's seen some trauma already in his life. With an outside spread like that you might want to leave him... grin

Re: The Ultimate Cull Buck! - 10/10/17 05:03 PM

I opened this thread thinking, "Oh sure, another slightly off buck or deer with an injury making 1 side look weird", but nope, you delivered big time. That thing is so odd looking I think I'd purposely take him over a nice 8pt.

Re: The Ultimate Cull Buck! - 10/10/17 07:19 PM

Doesn't look like a cull buck to me.

If you want to shoot him just because he is unique, take him.

But IMO culling is removing an inferior animal that you don't want breeding. One cannot pass "injury" genetics down to their offspring.

I understand both those saying shoot and those that say don't shoot.

I personally think he's suffered enough already and beat the odds, I'd let him go. Shoot or Don't shoot are both right answers depending on who is shooting. But I don't think he is a cull buck.

Re: The Ultimate Cull Buck! - 10/10/17 07:25 PM

Do you think he would be able to breed? That would be the deciding factor for me..... He is really cool looking and ugly at the same time. Neat one defenitely

Re: The Ultimate Cull Buck! - 10/10/17 09:08 PM

I don't know if he could breed or not. Most of his back right leg is gone, but he gets around pretty good considering. I've been watching him for a few weeks now and he doesn't stray too far from that feeder and the water hole in that pasture. He's a trooper for sure.
