From Stump Sitters to Deer and Deer Hunting - 03/26/17 03:11 AM

The new (June) issue of Deer and Deer Hunting magazine is also their 40th Anniversary issue and includes some great articles that describe how deer research has evolved over the past four decades. It also notes when some of the tools and methods that are common today were first introduced to the deer hunting community.

It's definitely something worth keeping for future readers.

I agree with this wholeheartedly! Some of the methods they use and preach are useless here in Texas! Us Texans pretty much need our own set of advice due to opposite ways in which our deer feed, live, and breed compared to Yankee deer.

The last time that I spoke with a buck he had neither an East Texas drawl nor a Bostonian bark.

Of course, I might just be speaking with the wrong deer.

I haven't subscribed to the magazine for a number of years but even in their earliest issues they published many articles from prominent deer biologists from the University of Alabama, Auburn University and Georgia.
The last I checked they're all pretty far south of the Mason Dixon Line. LOL

As well as my alma mater, Mississippi State.

Now, if you really want a magazine that seldom focuses on wildlife research in the South, take your pick between Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, and many others.

Fortunately, the South has become a hotbed for deer research.

Of course, what most deer hunters chose to believe concerning that research is a different matter.

Texas doesent have a good deer hunting magazine anymore. Of course there really isn't much need to keep writing about how to watch a corn feeder, picking the most comfortable blind or feeder pen construction.

Aside from the pine curtain, I don't think Texas is considered a southern state, I think it's part of the south west.

The folks in Austin and East Texas might disagree, but for much different reasons.

And I keep thinking that we don't need another hunting show. But they keep popping up. Boredom is a strong drug.

The best show was the old Journal of the Texas Trophy Hunters when Jerry Johnston narrated it.

I loved that show. it told the story like it went down. Not overly hyped up, good stories and hunts.

Todays shows are just awful.
