How Many Acres Do You Actually Hunt? - 10/23/15 06:42 PM
Some folks were "discussing" the minimum acres for hunting under a lease topic. Our lease is just shy of a section with low fence. Our blinds on the other hand hunt 2-5 acres that we can see. One used to be maybe 20 acres. One is beside a tank that probably stretches to 30 acres. One of the blinds is probably short on the 2 acres side.

I can see about 3 acres, but I believe I draw deer from a 40 acre track of woods.

We have 1500 acres and will hunt a max of 4 at a time. Prefer 2-3. But it's in the panhandle and you can see forever. Differing terrain and deer density makes this unique from area to area.

350 acre lease. Blind covers probably 7-10 acres each. Who knows what kind of deer will move through during the rut though.

If you mean what can I see:
Bow hunting: one stand about 25 yards, one stand about 30 yards, one stand I can see about a 30 acre field but only hunting about 30 yards.
Rifle hunting: Can see 250-300 yards on each (about 30-40 acres).
My place is 365 acres. If you consider all the stand locations I would guess I am actually hunting about 75% of it since I am famiar with the usual travel patterns of the deer.
About 20-25% of it is not hunted for all intents and purposes from stand locations but I do still hunt it from time to time. As I do on other parts of my place. It's thick country - east TX.

I can see a long ways down the two right a ways but overall acreage is very small. We are on a 2500 acre lease but the visibility on the entire thing isn't very good. Super thick coverage that you can hardly walk through.
I can shoot a total of an acre maybe.

We hunted 3500 acres out near Menard for years, and all of the best bucks came from about three 20-50 acre areas. Usually near a windmill. You could put 10 hunters on all the other acreage, and never take as many quality bucks as those 3 hot spots. The fact that all the neighboring properties were large tracts helped a bunch.
Of course, it's different where I live here in East Texas. Here every neighbor on the next 50 acres has a stand, a feeder, and gun.

Depends where and how I'm hunting
At my ranch in panhandle I'm hunting sections at a time via a spitting scope and glass.
Smaller place in Brady I hunt is 210 acres if you hunt one of the three feeders 3acres to 45acres. If I set where I can see all three feeders. 120 acres
Other hill country ranch it's about 4-20 depending if one of those 10 blinds is on an oat feild or not. 10 blinds on 2500 acres
My lease down south it's depends where you park the truck.

100 acres, 234 acres, 70,000 acres and to much to count on where I hunt at in another location. I can hunt all of it if I want to walking, stalking, glassing or sitting in a blind. Max hunters is 8 on the 70,000 acres, the rest I hunt by myself most of the time.
About a section, but I think most of our blinds look over 2-5 acres. Two might see 10-12. One sees about 40-50 but you're not really hunting all of that.

2000 acres, more or less. The areas you can actually glass from any one stand range from just a couple acres on up to 200+ acres. We do have one isolated, noncontiguous 120 acre pasture that we don't hunt at all and several coastal pastures that we only hunt late season, if at all.

All about location and terrain. In the Panhandle I hunt 1-5 sections at a time by myself with about 20 sections to cover. In Abilene maybe 15 acres, but it's a good 15 acres off of my 42.

Our place is 5700 acres, 10 guys, my spot i can see 350 yards to my left, about 500 to my right and 250 out front, its basically a pasture surrounded by 2 creeks. My step dads spot, he has about a 2 acre food plot, and that's pretty much all you can see.

We have a little more than 1,000 acres and most blinds can see 1 to 4 acres but a couple 10 to 100 acres. And you will see more deer at the larger spots when you corn roads and open areas in Nov. Come Dec you never know.

We hunt on 9300 acres. I would say most of my sets I'm hunting about 2-300 at a time that I can shoot anything I decide to. I can see at least 5000 acres in any direction I turn my head.

I own 68 acres and my deer blind is kind of in the middle of it with a view out several hundred yards in most directions. Mostly we just focus on the feeder and food plot, which covers about 2 acres max. Hogs are all over, so we tend to either shoot them from the blind when we are seeing them on the game cameras during daylight hours, or when we are out for a walk on our land or fishing at our pond and they show up.

400 acre property, but only 75 of it is hardwood creek bottom. Other is an open field. There are ponds though and they get hunted on occasion. One feeder...multiple stands.

My place is only 76 acres and I shoot 4-5 deer off it every year and so does the guy on 15 acres next to me.
I can see about 55 acres from 2 stands, but my bow blind in the woods is pretty dense forest. Can maybe see an acre surrounding me.

I can hunt about 40 of the 125 acres. 25 of it is a work area with people moving around equipment everyday. 40 acres is almost impenetrable and about 20 acres of water. Longest shot possible is about 125 yards.

South Texas-approx. 1000 acres, hunt the senderos.
New Mexico-approx. 100 sq miles. Just depends on what I can get to that day.

28 acres total off spring creek in a little big town of magnolia. This are is loaded with shitty bucks. It's in the back of a mobile home subdivision. The neighbors cleared off half their 15 acres and made a tree farm.. but I'd say maybe 1000 acres of woods. All around with neighborhoods scattered across. Taken my biggest deer and most of them here right behind the house by the pond. I have stands on the creek bottom and never see anything down there worth a damn.. I guess they like crossing roads and people's lots.
