Stirring the pot

OK guys, I'm stuck at work thinking about the woods,which is where my brothers are (I'm so jealous), and decided that I would "Stir the pot". Mechanical broad heads to me,are akin to the belted magnum craze that some hunters are still experiencing.Not needed,or rarely needed anyway, but seems to be more about ego than anything else. I don't believe there is a whitetail or mule deer in America that can take a 243 caliber-100 grain bullet thru the boiler room and survive. And yet some would shoot one with a 338 magnum. It appears to be the same with Mechanical broad heads. I shoot a Muzzie or Slick Trick,sharpened beyond factory specs, and never have an issue with long tracking jobs or bad blood trails. Why would I want to shoot something that will have a 3 inch cut, and has to be moving at a break neck speed just to open on impact.I fail to see the actual advantage of this except that, as stated above, its about ego. Am I wrong? This discussion is of course "tongue n cheek", so no death threats are required!

You should get rid of that v8 and get something that just barely gets the job done. Wouldn't want anyone thinking you have a big ego.

For me the biggest difference is that mechanicals shoot like field points. Had an issue last weekend with a youth hunter shooting fixed and the wind was changing the arrow flight. Switched to mechanical and problem fixed.

You opened the can now!!! 243? are you kidding me? That is my favorite gun of all time. Mechanical broadheads, love them especially the 13 dollar ones at walmart, and my truck has 6 cylinders of turbo charged Cummins power.

I'm trying mechanicals and it's exact the opposite of ego. Me and three other hunting buddies all noticed our muzzy blades didnt look like stainless anymore. Not saying they were or were not but they just had that look. We noticed they were more bronze. The other thing we noticed is after we shot deer or hog the blades didn't look almost new like they once did after going through ribs. Now before I get jumped on by some cause I know there are many many guys on here that kill deer with them all the time. As I always say if it works don't change it. I will admit this as well. If you hit the deer in the vitals no matter what head I believe that deer will die. So I believe I have hit a few not perfect so my fault on those.

Also my daughter kills deer with a 222. Lol

I put up the bow a few years ago due to shoulder problems, but from what I've seen. mechanicals tend to have the same the same flight as practice arrows while broadheads can vary. Mechanicals require a minimum velocity to work and are more fragile so they are a poor choice for traditional bows and heavily boned game. If you're hunting most North American game and using a compound bow it's personal choice.
